Rolling off oh, chair, chair Oh pain
Tara
00:12
Oh god.
Sarah
00:13
Oh boy. Yep
Clip
00:16
Dang. Wait for the four leave I took to kick it
Tara
00:21
Well, at least I'm glad that you I mean, I'm sorry that you're in p terrible pain every day, but at least now you have accepted over-the-counter pain relievers or pretty much choose your own adventure in terms of how many you can take, as long as it's not Tylenol.
Dave
00:34
That's gonna be the intro of the show. Let's go.
Clip
00:37
You ate a cheesesteak at two AM?i'm in Philly.
Dave
00:46
This is the Extra Extra Hot Great Podcast, episode 424 for the August 15, 2026 weekend. I am $50 Flash Drive Sale David T. Cole and I'm here with Trivia Question on the back of a creatine box, Sarah D. Bunting.
Sarah
01:06
Who is Nikki Scarfo?
Dave
01:08
And cheeses enthusiast Tara Ariano.
Tara
01:11
Yeah. Welcome to Extra Extra Hot Great for another weekend. We're so glad that you're here. Thank you for your support. Thank you for strapping in for our discussion of Reacher season four in Hmm
Dave
01:34
We'll wait a second here. Let's just see if everybody's been paying attention. We'll do this one word at a time. I'll go to Tara, then Sarah.
Tara
01:40
Oh guy, okay who
Dave
01:40
Reacher, the Close enough. Sarah? No. Who reaches?
Tara
01:49
Yep, that's right.
Dave
01:50
We're very close.
Tara
01:52
Jack Reacher, Alan Richtson, loves to bop around this great nation, and this time his travels have brought him to Philadelphia. He's just trying to enjoy a late night cheesesteak on the subway when he notices a woman exhibiting several of the signs that she could be a suicide bomber, so he approaches lying that he is a police officer to try to gain her trust. It does not work and gets him pulled into her surprisingly complicated story. Nick Santora is the creator of the Reacher TV series, each season of which has so far been based on a different novel in Lee Child's Reacher book series. Season four is based on Gone Tomorrow. The first three episodes of season four dropped on Prime Video August 12th. We got access to all eight, but we'll not spoil events from the ones that have not dropped yet. Let's do the Chen check-in. Sarah, this was your first encounter with Reacher. Should our listeners watch it?
Sarah
02:47
Oh my god, I don't know if our listeners should watch it. I am so excited that I have three whole unwatched seasons to go back to.
Tara
02:54
Yay, Dave Dave
Sarah
02:54
I love the show now. Yes, watch it.
Dave
02:57
Sarah D. Bunting, you own a bookstore. I know it's true crime, but let's just say for the sake of argument, Dan had his own section and this was up there, right? Because Dan's into these books, as I recall, right?
Sarah
03:06
Oh my god, if Dan opened a bookstore it would be every single one of these, some of which we own in duplicate, because he goes on a flight and forgets that he already read it.
Dave
03:08
Yeah. Okay. S Okay, so if he had his own bookstore, would he, as I would, only put Reacher on the upper shelves?
Sarah
03:24
But there would also be a grabber.
Tara
03:26
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Sarah
03:27
'Cause he's a good guy
Tara
03:28
Mm-hmm.
Dave
03:29
I enjoy Reacher. I think this season is way funnier than the other ones and I am enjoying that a lot.
Tara
03:34
Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yes.
Dave
03:37
So yeah, absolutely. Stick it into your face hole.
Tara
03:39
It's a yes for me as well. Let's get into it. Sarah, we did not know when we picked this topic that Reacher was going to be telling Kevin Corrigan. Playing a cop Reacher does not respect, and with a partner played by a GLO alumna, that the reason Reacher comes to Philadelphia was to see the Phillies amazing pitcher in his prime. The show really started pandering to you almost immediately, and that was before we got to the adorable kitten, so I guess you're welcome.
Sarah
04:07
It really did. In addition, Adam Rove from Joan of Arcadia
Tara
04:12
Yes, mm hmm
Sarah
04:13
Buffy alums, 90210 alums. I kind of love the fact that I immediately spotted excuses to cover parts of this season for Again With Again With This, our Cousin podcast.
Tara
04:24
Mm-hmm. Yes
Sarah
04:26
Like immediately that he's just eating a cheesesteak at five in the morning, she's like, Oh, this is a good breakfast. I had a feeling I would enjoy this, but Dan is very against non-text Reachiriana, so
Tara
04:43
Huh, okay.
Dave
04:44
Oh, purist.
Sarah
04:45
I guess. And also, there's just a lot of TV, and I was like, does this set itself apart from whatever? But it has that like knows exactly what it is and does that really well
Tara
04:56
Yeah, mm hmm
Sarah
04:56
Bah bah bah ba bosh vibe, and then fucking Marshall Flinkman shows up as a CIA Manson crackpot, and I'm like, oh my god, why didn't anyone tell me that they were making a show specifically for me, Sarah D.
Tara
05:09
Yeah.
Sarah
05:09
Bunting?
Tara
05:10
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
05:10
Now I know.
Tara
05:11
Yeah. Dave, you already mentioned this season feels funnier than others and I don't think we want a show in this category to become too self-aware, but ending the premiere of season four with Reacher having to be taken down with Multiple doses of Gorilla Tranquilizer tells me they they know what they are doing and why we are watching.
Dave
05:29
Yeah Right. It's one of those smart dumb shows and it's doing a better job of it this season and I don't think it ever did a bad job.
Tara
05:35
Yes.
Sarah
05:36
Is it
Dave
05:42
But they seem to be dialing things in better. The the moments of levity. There's a quick clip here that you clip for another reason that I just want to play. It's Reacher talking to somebody and there's food between them.
Clip
05:56
Tell me the real story. Fries are communal. Go on.
Sarah
06:07
Go on. I also love that he frequently answers just sort of like fillery type questions from law enforcement with like, why don't you have a seat?
Tara
06:14
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
06:18
No. Why don't you tell me what you're doing in such and so city?
Tara
06:22
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Sarah
06:22
No, not unpleasant about it, but I just enjoyed that
Dave
06:25
Yeah, and part of that whole shtick this season is that when he's actually talking to cops, he's like one hundred percent No filter, brain to mouth. Like Kevin Corrigan's character is like, oh do you think I'm stupid? Yes.
Sarah
06:38
Yes.
Dave
06:38
Like right away. Like just comes out and there's like a whole sequence of those. And that's when I was like, oh, alright.
Sarah
06:43
Yeah.
Dave
06:44
They're changing the formula. They're tweaking it this season.
Tara
06:46
Yeah.
Dave
06:46
I'm enjoying it.
Tara
06:47
Or when he's talking to the feds who don't identify themselves and problems with the the army or the US government, he's like, tons He's delightful. And it does get turned around on him too when he uh later on asks the Kathleen Robertson character, like, Oh, can you give me a ride to the back to the hotel? And she goes, I could, and then leaves
Dave
07:06
Yeah.
Tara
07:07
So it goes both ways. Dave, it feels fair to say that Reacher has two modes. He's either the still stoic point around which the action swirls, or he's the dervish who is tearing guys' arms off. Were you satisfied by the balance of these two modes over the first three episodes of season?
Dave
07:24
Yeah, yeah. I think the easiest example for that is the moment where he finally gets captured with gorilla tranqs. They send him and his buddies to a like a CAI black site, some uh abandoned warehouse next to Flinkman's Fl Flinkman's
Tara
07:41
Yes.
Dave
07:41
House and then he escapes, even though he's in chains and he's half trank still, probably. He does say at the beginning of the interview, I I I will whatever, jab this pen in you or do something bad and of course by the end of it that exactly happens.
Tara
07:55
Mm-hmm.
Dave
07:59
So that five minute stretch right there is what makes Reacher really fun. It's like Oh yeah, well here's the thing I'm gonna do to you. And it's like feels impossible, but of course it will come to pass. You know, like Yoda having a premonition, except it's really violent.
Tara
08:15
Sarah, is this what you were expecting or hoping for? Or was it more than you could have dreamed in terms of the violence?
Dave
08:22
Yes, your bloodlust is it satiated?
Sarah
08:25
This is about the level of rib crunching that I expected, and uh yes, I was satisfied, I would say.
Tara
08:30
Yes, yes
Sarah
08:34
I found myself thinking like, kudos to the casting agents, because not only do they have to find this just endless supply of beefy looking guys who would look credible that like three of them could kung fu movie style like swarm reacher
Dave
08:46
Yeah.
Tara
08:51
Yes.
Sarah
08:52
and actually have a realistic hope of prevailing. And they found the absolute perfect kitten for him to be cradling in his arms in the front of a minivan. So uh yes
Tara
09:02
Yep.
Sarah
09:03
Kudos to the casting agents, but also I think it is the right proportion of violence, but then in between it's not like you're sort of board drumming your fingers waiting for another knuckle splitting fight to break out.
Tara
09:15
Mm-hmm
Sarah
09:16
It's it's uh it's proportioned correctly, I would say
Dave
09:19
Mm-hmm.
Tara
09:19
Yeah, well part of the character is Reacher is obviously very big, but he's also really smart. So that that makes both sides of it satisfying, in my opinion.
Dave
09:26
Yeah. He's so big, if you haven't watched the show, the way it would explain
Sarah
09:29
Mm-hmm.
Dave
09:32
Explain it. If the three people that Sarah were talking about sort of don't go anywhere kid style at a picnic where they just grab onto your legs and one on your arm and you just still just walk away with them, he could do that with grown giant bruiser men.
Tara
09:45
Yes, yes.
Sarah
09:46
Mm-hmm
Dave
09:46
That sort of is his shtick.
Tara
09:48
Mm-hmm
Dave
09:49
But yeah, I think Sarah is right. I think like the v marquee events are great, but they're not the only thing that brings you to the table.
Tara
09:58
Yeah. And they do every season alwa also have the moment where like Two little guys are like, we could take him. There's two of us and you know, it's not enough. Four guys is not enough.
Dave
10:07
People people gotta learn
Tara
10:09
They do gotta learn
Sarah
10:10
Mm-hmm.
Tara
10:11
Reacher gets new compatriots every season. In season four it's Detective Tamara Green, who's played by Sidel Noel from Glow and Mayfield, New Jersey police officer Jake Merrick, played by, as Sarah already mentioned, Christopher Rodriguez Marquette from Joan of Arcadia. Dave, how interesting do you typically need characters in this category to be and did they m meet your standard?
Dave
10:33
I think in Reacher they have two purposes. Not that it's unique to Reacher. One, they have to be kinda dumb about things so Reacher can explain how cops actually should do things. And then he needs help from them. You know, he d he needs the plates run. He needs, you know, the this and that. Very Rockford files esque actually.
Tara
10:51
Yes.
Dave
10:52
And that seems to be their function, and that is not unique to this show. It's sort of just one of those tropes about a hero and the cops. That's sort of the dynamic between them. It doesn't change it here that much.
Tara
11:05
Yeah. Sarah, were you interested by them
Sarah
11:09
Yes, I was, and not just because of these actors who I was happy to be reunited with, but it is a more delicate balance than The show makes it look like the show, at least in this season, makes it look pretty easy, or like these are the obvious sort of teammates for him within the story. But they have to know enough. Or kind of get on board with the idea that there's a larger conspiracy at work and they're in danger pretty quickly, but not too quickly. Like It's only me who uses this phrase, but I call it the poltergeist equation, I guess, which is like you need the people in a jump scare like horror movie to get on board with the fact that they're in a horror plot really quickly in my opinion.
Tara
11:56
Yeah
Sarah
11:56
You can't have like more than I'm gonna say 15 minutes of dicking around and being like, ghosts, what are those?
Tara
12:03
Uh-huh.
Sarah
12:03
This is kind of the same thing that if you have two people like this who are law enforcement, I mean, okay, Mayfield PD is like, you know, Mayberry. Ha, we get it But they pretty quickly sort of sign on to the idea that there's shit going on they don't know about, and Reacher knows slightly more than they do, and is an effective literal battering ram to get to information, and that was pleasing, so.
Dave
12:30
Yeah. And the backstory of Reacher is that he's a military police investigator/slash cop I mean pol uh military police. So he also is sort of like part detective as well. He's very Batman-esque, basically.
Tara
12:42
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Dave
12:44
He's Batman without the cowl, kind of.
Tara
12:45
Mm-hmm.
Dave
12:46
So that works too.
Tara
12:47
Also has to turn his head like this. Just his shoulder his shoulders.
Dave
12:49
Boy, I love Reacher and I'm glad it's here, but uh boy, I think that guy's doing damage to himself.
Sarah
12:50
Mm-hmm.
Dave
12:57
I think he you know, he's gonna hit Stallone years where he's just he just has like move like a tank back and forth.
Tara
13:03
Yeah.
Dave
13:03
That's it.
Tara
13:03
Well, especially since we not too long ago watched Alan Richtson, like still a big guy, credible as a football player in Blue Mountain State, but like
Dave
13:12
Normal non-augmented, yes, let's say
Tara
13:14
Yes, not not so
Dave
13:16
And when I say nog augmented, I mean his his very long and effective weight training routine.
Tara
13:23
Yes.
Dave
13:24
Wink.
Tara
13:25
Well, who knows?
Dave
13:26
Yeah, who knows?
Tara
13:26
Who knows what he does to make himself look like he's from Minecraft? That's none of our business.
Dave
13:33
He does look like uh Spear from uh Primal.
Tara
13:35
He and him too, it's true, if we could see him barefoot.
Sarah
13:37
Hmm.
Dave
13:37
And he runs like him too, yeah.
Sarah
13:38
I was gonna say, what's the I'm not even sure if it's a Marvell character, entirely made of rocks?
Tara
13:43
Oh thing.
Dave
13:44
Did you just say Marbell?
Tara
13:45
He said Marvel she said Marvell, like Elizabeth Marvell.
Sarah
13:45
Yes. I do I do it every time, I'm so sorry
Tara
13:49
Thing. The th thing from
Dave
13:52
I love Mar. Let's always call it Marvell from now on.
Sarah
13:56
It's Marvellus.
Dave
13:56
Please. We were talking while you were gone that we might go see the new Marvell film Spider-Man Something Home Something.
Sarah
13:57
What It's spelled M A R V E L L E.
Dave
14:07
Yeah.
Tara
14:07
Yes. Tech question for you, Dave.
Dave
14:09
Uh huh.
Tara
14:10
This season has a MacGuffin in the form of a flash drive.
Dave
14:13
Yeah
Tara
14:13
Is this the marker of a season based on a novel from 2009 or is it still credible as a plot device?
Dave
14:19
Yeah, I mean I'm not in the corporate space, so I don't really know how much flash drives get used today in 2026, but I know I haven't used one since
Tara
14:27
Yeah.
Dave
14:30
I had to do a my gaming PC is really fucked up and the only way to reinstall the OS is somehow to put Windows on a flash drive because it's just that fucked up.
Tara
14:39
Yeah
Dave
14:40
That was the last time I ever had to touch a flash drive, and that was probably I think we were in Hawaii still, so that was seven years at least ish.
Tara
14:46
Mm-hmm. Yeah
Dave
14:48
So I was sort of amused, but it doesn't really, you know, how do you gonna have that park meet if your documents are in the cloud?
Tara
14:57
It's true.
Dave
14:57
Does Reacher come with a little MacBook Neo and just pops it up? It's like, yeah, you got you know, I can I borrow your hotspot on your phone?
Tara
15:04
I was gonna say.
Dave
15:04
And then like he types it in. Yeah, it doesn't doesn't
Tara
15:06
It's on his phone. They bump their phones together. They do that thing.
Sarah
15:08
Yeah
Dave
15:09
Yeah, so it's just one of those. Uh I don't think there's a better alternative, but yeah, it was kind of funny.
Tara
15:14
I'm also not sure, just based on what the apparently dozens of federal workers in our Discord have said about their systems, like the piece of information that's on this drive was taken from
Dave
15:22
Yeah.
Tara
15:27
like a federal database basically. And I don't think that would be allowed. Like I don't think it would work, you know.
Dave
15:35
Oh.
Tara
15:35
Not I mean, obviously not be allowed, but I don't know if it would work based on how their systems work.
Dave
15:39
What do you mean, not work?
Tara
15:40
that you could that there would be m safeguards in place to stop data being moved around like that.
Dave
15:45
I mean, not really. I mean, even if there was some magical way for a file to get on your computer and you not being able to get it out, just pull at your camera and take pictures of whatever's on your screen.
Tara
15:47
All right. Well true, yeah
Dave
15:57
You know, there's just ways around it.
Tara
15:59
Speaking to my own expertise, I cannot believe it's taken until now for me to see a crank-operated compact shelving system like in library stacks used as a murder weapon, but it it was great.
Sarah
16:11
Oh my god, yeah. More bunt nip that it was like, oh, where the old stuff is.
Dave
16:14
Uh-huh.
Sarah
16:16
Like, hmm, guess I don't really care about the integrity of the mid-century archives.
Dave
16:22
So so w as soon as that scene came up, one, I was thinking, does anybody actually have a food pantry on that? Like they just have so much food they have to employ one of these things and are like super rich so they don't care. He actually crushes somebody in between them, not just like knocks them out, but he keeps on going until blood spurts out and they are dead.
Tara
16:37
Mm-hmm. Until till black Yep.
Sarah
16:40
Yeah
Dave
16:41
And they just throws him in the coal bucket or whatever they have there in the basement of the library.
Tara
16:43
Mm-hmm Yeah.
Dave
16:46
That was a great scene. I really enjoyed that one.
Tara
16:47
Yep. Delightful.
Dave
16:48
Yeah.
Sarah
16:49
Mm-hmm.
Tara
16:49
You already played the clip, but let's uh let's close out with our judgments on this. Our fries communal, Dave.
Dave
16:56
Oh. Well look, I don't wanna like, you know, be that wishy washy answer, but I would say fries are communal after they hit a certain size.
Tara
17:05
Mm, mm-hmm, yes.
Dave
17:05
If you get a small bag of McDonald's fries, you know, the ones that used to have quite a few fries in it, but you buy them down and there's like three in it, I would say that's not communal, that you have made a statement that these are buy fries.
Tara
17:13
Yes.
Sarah
17:13
Mm-hmm
Tara
17:18
Right
Dave
17:18
I think once you get into the large size and certainly the basket size that they have now or the equivalent thereof, then fries do become communal and there's nothing you can do about it.
Sarah
17:23
Mm-hmm
Tara
17:27
Mm-hmm.
Dave
17:29
And you also can't cheat the system by buying three small fries and saying they're all communal. It's an aggregate that equals large fries.
Tara
17:37
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
17:37
Well, what about I have a certain way I want my fries dressed and the co the commune has to live with it?
Dave
17:43
Mm. Yeah, I think that's fair.
Tara
17:44
Mm-hmm.
Dave
17:45
If you paid for them, you get to dress them, and if somebody can stand what you dressed them on, they're still communal.
Sarah
17:50
Mm-hmm.
Tara
17:50
Yeah.
Sarah
17:51
I agree.
Tara
17:52
I think we solved it.
Dave
17:53
Okay, great. I think let me just check.
Sarah
17:58
Are we already closing the food portal?
Clip
17:59
Enough! I'm so sick and tired of hearing you people talk about food, food, food!
Dave
18:00
Yeah.
Tara
18:04
Whoa!
Dave
18:08
We take our duty seriously here on this podcast.
Sarah
18:12
Fuck it eh
Dave
18:12
Alright everybody, it's time for everybody's favorite ask and answer segment. It is AskEHG. Reach All right, it is time to figure out who won last week's Ask Ask EHG where we flip the script and you must answer a question. for us. Let's spin the wheel adjustment to see who is going to judge this week. That's a weird sound for a thing to make, but that's what it did, and it landed on Tara.
Tara
18:57
Yes, it's me
Dave
18:58
Oh wait, I got a better one. Here we go. Let me spin the wheel of judgment. All right, it's Tara.
Tara
19:06
It's me and our question last week that we asked of you, or rather Bezoar Laura asked of you was Who is your favorite TV chaos agent and what is your favorite example of the chaos they set in motion? I had one I didn't see anyone say, which is Bill McNeil of News Radio. Dave and I recently completed our latest rewatch. I'm gonna say this is rewatch number five or so, at least
Dave
19:31
At least
Tara
19:32
Just some of the examples of him being a chaos agent trying to be a knockoff Mark Russell, that is in the public domain episode, which is in the c in the canon, of course. Dunting with a cane, perfect cane weather, hiring Cadbury, the gentleman's gentleman out of the penny saver, to come and do things like a boogie dance to amuse him. and terrorizing the office after he is forced to quit smoking by new rules in the building. Uh so just a few. Some of your answers, the runners up include Monty, who writes Jason Mantzoukas and everything he's ever been in and one suspects real life.
Dave
20:10
Yeah
Sarah
20:11
Yep.
Tara
20:17
probably why everything possible happens to him. But our winner is sincerely this nurse. Gotta be Q from Star Trek TNG.he's a shit stirrer from episode one, but I'm particularly partial to the one where he plays Bitchy Mentor to Nuke played by Olivia D'abo from The Wonder Years. Good one. Love it. Contact Dave on Discord. Get your stickers
Dave
20:44
All right, let's get into your questions for us. First one comes from Rube Goldberg. Are there clips on the soundboard that you thought you would use more often than you actually have? It's been a minute since I heard the cold case howl. And I may have said hello, old friend, out loud during the uh most recent episode of Extra Extra Hot Great. There are There are a lot, but I'm gonna play five of them for you. Actually, here's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna try to fit these into the show semi-naturally. We'll see how many I get through. So there's five that I picked that I feel like didn't get their due, and we'll see if we can squeeze them in. Alright.
Tara
21:21
All right.
Dave
21:21
Drydendon.
Tara
21:23
He tried engine tried
Dave
21:25
What is your TV genie wish and what is the dark twist the genie inflicts upon said wish? Tar.
Tara
21:33
My wish is bring back 22 episode TV seasons for Tara the Viewer and the Dark Twist is Tara the critic gets another full-time critic job and preparing to write reviews takes fucking forever now that there are 22 episodes to watch instead of like eight. Uh, but seriously, if you do have a full-time TV critic job, hire me for it, even if these are the conditions. I I will take it. Thank you. Sarah.
Sarah
21:57
That every figure in TV who has assaulted or abused others just winks out of our plane of existence and into another one, leftover style, some Shitty anonymous place from which it's not possible for them to return, where they have to live with the consequences of their actions. Of course, the dark twist for everyone is that it's probably a way higher percentage than the Two that got clipped from the leftovers, and there will be a not insignificant number we didn't know about, and we'll be gravely disappointed by worth it, in my opinion, Dave.
Dave
22:28
Similar to Tara. The wish is all TV shows go back to weekly episode releases, so I'm not compelled to watch eight episodes of a show just in case the lead is revealed to be an alien in episode six. The terrible twist is all TV shows now have a lead that is revealed to be an alien in episode six.
Sarah
22:40
Uh-huh.
Tara
22:45
No, no, no.
Sarah
22:47
Of twenty-two. Wow, where do you go from there?
Dave
22:48
Yep. GRISLY Clare Zoe Saldania is Uhura, says Grizzly Clare, in the movies.
Sarah
22:53
Hmm
Dave
22:57
Anson Mount is Captain Pike and Strange New Worlds. So it stands to reason that the Crossroads co-star Brittany Spears will be next in line to join the Star Trek universe. Not a question. Will we answer it? Did anybody have an answer for this?
Tara
23:13
I mean, I assume the untold end of that is right. And my answer is yeah, right.
Sarah
23:18
Yeah, mind you
Tara
23:18
Yes.
Dave
23:20
Here's an actual answer for you then. Strange New World should do a TOS style end credit stills for their last season, and Britney should be the uh Orion dancer that we see in the original one.
Sarah
23:31
Sure.
Dave
23:32
Jovial Gent, what TV dog would make the best TV lawyer? I think Cheddar probably knows some shit about what shady cops do. I think he'd make a good lawyer.
Tara
23:39
Mm. Mm-hmm. Brian from Family Guy, he can talk. He might be a lawyer for all I know. I do not watch that show. Sarah.
Sarah
23:48
Tiger from the Brady Bunch. If you do not have evidence or statute on your side, create tumult
Dave
23:55
Planty plant plant! Who are your favorite project runway contestants of all time? Of all time, Tar?
Tara
24:02
This was tough because I did go and consult the full list on Wikipedia, and after they got about four seasons deep, I was like, I don't remember any of these people at all.
Sarah
24:07
Same
Tara
24:11
So In terms of design, I'm gonna say Jay McCarroll, who won season one, I still think about his Empire State Building dress and some of the looks in his final show as a personality, though I do also love his designs.
Sarah
24:19
Mm-hmm.
Tara
24:25
Still to this day, Christian Siriano, the winner of season four. Sarah
Sarah
24:30
Yeah, that was sort of my take that I was like, oh yeah Oh yeah. But then a lot of them only became my favorites, like Kateau or Fabio, thanks to All-Star Seasons, which were great.
Tara
24:40
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
24:41
But Daniel Vosovich, Kelly Dempsey, and Christian, of course. And uh Michael Knight from season three, R. I. P.
Dave
24:49
Do you want me to hem that dress for you, Michael?
Tara
24:52
Was Michael with a Y
Dave
24:54
Oh. Jovial Jen, he's back. What self-care tip would you yell at strangers? Sarah.
Sarah
25:01
Eyes up. Like, kind of for safety. My neighborhood you have to be on a swivel for stoners running lights and dumb kids racing scooters on the sidewalk, but smartphones have just made a total lack of awareness of the existence of other people endemic, so some of this is me being a Gratchy Grandpa, but it's also advice that I could use daily and am happier for take it. Look around, notice stuff, be bored. for 90 consecutive seconds or charmed as the case may be. Get your face out of threads. It's not real life. Stand up straight. Tara.
Dave
25:36
Flibbity flu.
Tara
25:38
Look both ways, Dave
Dave
25:39
Oh, I see. I see I took this differently. So this is what I would yell at people. Those flip-flops are not everyday walking around shoes. You're fucking up your feet. I thought that was the question.
Sarah
25:49
I considered that one.
Dave
25:50
Yeah. Alright. Erica, your octopus friend, has one for me. Whose voice is that saying the names of the winners in those little stings at the end of the game? Kirk Hamilton did the original batch, so that was Tara Joe and Value Guest, but the voice isn't his. It's a friend that just happened to be at his house that day.
Sarah
26:09
Does sound pretty similar to him though.
Dave
26:11
Don't know his name. Sorry dude, but thank you. He's also the guy that does Is this worse than Jazz? Me and Sarah's were done in the same style as that by Adam Blau, Dan's brother. Diana, who is your favorite nepo baby? Your favorite nepo baby. Oh, I love that. Tar.
Tara
26:32
It's Dakota Johnson. She's a nepo baby twice over. She's the child of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. And we all owe her a debt for starting the uh real backlash against Ellen DeGeneres with her um calling her out on the episode.
Sarah
26:49
Oh well.
Tara
26:50
A great moment in television, honestly. Truly, still to this day, I think about it like once a week. And also she's a great advertisement for bangs. Sarah.
Sarah
27:01
She really is. Someone should tiny can in that moment, perhaps It was very close for me here between Wyatt Russell and Jack Quaid. I kind of didn't want to call it, but Jack Quaid is also times two, and somehow the times two-iness netted out in him looking like Joshua Jackson, which is not bad for anyone, including Joshua Jackson, so that is my answer.
Dave
27:24
He's like Joshua Jackson, but he's mixed with 13% Budhead from Beavis and Budhead.
Sarah
27:30
Oh, oh yeah, I see what you're saying.
Dave
27:32
Yeah. His hair mostly, I think.
Sarah
27:34
Forehead.
Dave
27:35
Not my favorite, because honestly, who gives a shit? But I did find out looking up names of nepo babies that Kevin Smith named his daughter Harley Quinn Smith
Tara
27:44
He sure did.
Dave
27:44
That poor kid.
Tara
27:46
Mm-hmm.
Dave
27:46
Oh my god.
Tara
27:47
Yeah
Dave
27:48
As Dan Cassino says, I'm real horny for this character. What can I do with that? Oh, I know. Name my daughter Harley Quinn. Like, yes. God damn it, dude.
Tara
27:57
Oh God.
Sarah
27:58
She and Kahl need to get married.
Dave
28:00
Yeah. Alright, Joe Vent has another question for us. And by us, I mean Tara and Sarah. Make an Avengers style team up with people from the Darren Star universe plus their nemesis. Throw that in the mix. Sarah.
Sarah
28:14
How many of these am I supposed to do?
Dave
28:16
What do you mean?
Tara
28:17
I did one, two, three, four. I did five.
Dave
28:20
Oh, like how many people in the team?
Tara
28:22
Yes
Dave
28:22
I see
Sarah
28:23
Yeah. Um, okay. I have I think that many teams. Brandon Walsh and Professor Randall.
Tara
28:30
Oh, I see.
Sarah
28:30
Uh Kelly and Sterat
Dave
28:31
Oh.
Tara
28:31
That's n oh, I did it like the Avengers.
Dave
28:33
I thought you knew Marvell stuff better than this.
Tara
28:35
Marvell I've I
Sarah
28:38
Yes, clearly I know Marvell
Dave
28:40
No, so it's like five of them together fighting one foe.
Tara
28:43
Plus, well, or the faux becomes part of the team like Loki.
Dave
28:44
That's the Avengers part of it. Oh yeah, sure, sure.
Tara
28:47
I assume that's what they were getting at.
Dave
28:49
Yeah, but it's it's not a a bunch of two-man team ups, it's just like a group of
Sarah
28:53
Oh, I thought it was like uh Challenger's hero or not challengers. Uh the challenge Um Nemesis season.
Tara
28:59
Oh. No, but you can do whatever you want, who cares?
Dave
29:02
Look, you're the new Marvell studio chief. You just do what you want.
Sarah
29:07
Fine. This actually would be amusing as conceived by me, because I really did think it was like that challenge season where it's like, you two hate each other. Good luck! Brandon and Professor Randall, Kelly Taylor and Terrace Reachild, Michael Mancini and Dr. Peter Burns, Kimberly and Sidney, obviously, and of course they fall in love. And uh Carrie Bradshaw and Natasha, Mr. Biggs' first wife.
Tara
29:32
Now My team is Brenda Walsh and Dylan McKay from 90210. Matt, for obvious reasons, I love them both and I love them together. Matt Fielding from Melrose Place, so he would have something interesting to do for once in his fucking life. Rhonda Blair, because did you even know that's Rhonda's last name? It is, and I had to look it up and I covered every episode she was in.
Sarah
29:52
Wow.
Tara
29:54
Um she deserved better from Melrose, and she and Matt were buddies, and of course the nemesis is
Sarah
29:54
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Tara
29:59
Let's all say it together.
Dave
30:00
The chip bag from Melrose Place.
Tara
30:03
No, it's Michael Mancini.
Dave
30:03
Oh. Aha
Sarah
30:05
Uh, sure
Tara
30:05
He did not have anything against any of those other characters really, but I can't exactly say he's a hero to anyone but me.
Dave
30:12
All right. All right, that is it for us. Jovial Jen will also continue. and give you your ask ass ESG question for this week. Jove Deal Gent wants to know what TV soundtrack would make good restaurant background music. So you're at a restaurant. There's a TV show soundtrack on for some reason. You're like, yeah, yeah, what's that one? Let us know. Go to the Ask Ask EHG channel on Discord or you can use the form. It's right on the episode page on our site. And that's it for Ask EHG, so
Clip
30:44
Here's the road meatloaf.
Dave
30:50
It is time for the extra hawk rate tiny cannon presenting. This week it's Anne with an E!
Clip
30:57
Hi, Extra Hot Great. Today I am pitching a husband-wife familial authenticity tiny canon from The Last of Us season one episode six. kin. This is the cold open of the episode and the purpose of it is really simple and it could be exposition heavy and really obvious. What they're doing here is establishing a time jump, telling us where Joel and Ellie are going next and what dangers are ahead of them. But the way they stage it is really pretty amazing and it's really well acted. We follow Marlon, Graham Green, as he goes into his cabin and sees that his wife Florence, who's played by Elaine Miles, is being held hostage by Joel. And then they shortly reveal that Ellie is there too. I think that in these four short minutes we get a lot of insight about their relationship and them as characters that I don't believe they'll ever recur. And that's okay because I think what we got was pretty perfect and a great example of writing family really well. They demonstrate it in a lot of different ways. One of the big ones is how they share significant looks in just their eyes and in a laugh or in a single word or two. They have a shared sense of humor, even though they're two very different people. And they laugh at all the things that are going on, even though it's an incredibly stressful situation for them. Dave, please roll clip one Why did you shoot him? The gun's all the way over there. He didn't hurt me by the way. Yeah, I got eyes. He made him soup? Yeah, I did. It's cold up. I'm looking for my brother. Well, I ain't seen him. I haven't told you what he looks like. He look anything like you? A bit. Then I ain't seen him. He's got a girl with him. Can I come down? No M. Whoa. What did I just say Joe, come on, there's like a thousand. Who's this little psycho? Never mind her. I need you to tell us where we are. If you got a map, why are you lost? You must have missed all the street signs in the enormous fucking forest. Holy. We're somewhere here exactly where and your answer better be the same as your wife's Do you tell him the truth? Yeah. You telling me the truth? Yeah. This clip really highlights the easy communication and the implicit trust that they have in each other. Again, how they're sort of an odd couple, but they make sense. He is gruff and grumpy. He puts his gun away in the most sarcastic and angry manner that I think I've ever seen. And then she is just rocking and chilling and giggling and making soup for her captors because it's cold outside, and that annoys him. She also annoys Joel by pointing out that Ellie's upstairs, and obviously Ellie was supposed to be hidden for Ellie's safety. But you can't be mad at her. She's great. There's something about the exchange where he's explaining, oh no, we didn't find a hiding spot. We've always lived in the middle of nowhere. And she says, I didn't want to. And he's just like, meh. That again reads like a couple that you would meet and you would observe this interaction. Everything about them feels very real. And yeah, that's about it. This is a really grim show with a lot of dark things going on, and this scene is my favorite scene of the entire show so far. So thanks for your consideration.
Tara
34:44
Thank you, Anne, with an E. Sarah, I think you watched less of this than we did, although we did not last much longer than this, as I recall. But anyway, why don't you go first?
Sarah
34:55
I got partway into season two and then just fell off of it for reasons that I don't recall, possibly that redacted.
Tara
34:57
Oh. Mm-hmm.
Dave
35:02
You apologize to Sarah.
Tara
35:04
Sorry, Sarah.
Dave
35:04
Sarah's watched the most.
Tara
35:05
Yep, you've watched the most
Dave
35:06
All right.
Sarah
35:07
Wow. Alright. Well Fuck you guys.
Dave
35:11
All right.
Sarah
35:11
Actually, no.
Tara
35:11
Yeah.
Sarah
35:13
Marvel at how much more I watch than you.
Dave
35:14
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
35:16
But yeah, I didn't I didn't really remember this scene until I went back to watch it and it's I mean it's so good. Marilyn from Northern Exposure just doing her Marilyn Whirlwind thing in another role, but could absolutely be her. And um in our head tiny canon, I guess it Can be. One of the things that I liked about season one of The Last of Us is that characters that you sort of met going through the interior. that you knew you weren't gonna see again, you could absolutely see there being just a whole side episode about their conversation after the main characters left their presence. This conversation I think would be short and mostly grunts and like jerk-off motions, but that would still be amusing to me. I think that this is a really good pitch for familial authenticity because there's a lot that's not said and that's not necessarily these characters based, it's like the situation that These people have lived together and known each other a long time and there's like no one else around. Like they don't even really need language to communicate and don't use it when it's not necessary. Simultaneously disgusted and oh of course of you made him soup Perfect. Her delivery of I didn't want to. She's like, just for the record, uh I would prefer I would prefer to have lived in Boulder. The delivery of everywhere people used to be you can't go no more was really good. It was a pleasure to come back to this scene and to watch Joel observing the couple's interaction is also really compelling. So yeah, good pitch. I enjoyed this. Dave.
Dave
37:01
I loved the scene at the time and I loved revisiting it. There's something about when old people are just super comfortable in their collective skin that is just very endearing, especially when they're like slightly mean spirited about it, but in that sort of winky lovey way, and I think they absolutely nailed that here. And the fact that this could be Marilyn from Northern Exposure, actually the character just happen to ride out the apocalypse in Colorado, wherever they are, is just icing on the cake. And I agree with everything Anne said. I feel like she nailed all the reasons why this works. And I'd love the addition of just having Ellie there swearing up a storm for them to play off. Ooh.
Tara
37:42
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
37:44
Yeah.
Dave
37:44
Such a great little moment. So yeah, thumbs up from me. Tar.
Tara
37:47
Yeah, me too. I I enjoy how amused they are by the situation. I mean the the disgusted, like the the over it husband and the big look that he gives Joel when he takes his gun out with two fingers as ordered like ooh but then you can tell how they're going to keep talking about this incident for weeks because they're the first like non-zombie people they've seen, like possibly in years. And this is just an exciting break in their
Sarah
38:16
Mm-hmm
Tara
38:20
the monotony of their surviving lives that it's just like, Well, this could have been dangerous, but instead it just broke up the day in kind of a fun way. You can just picture them three weeks later being like, Remember that potty mouth on that girl? Good lord, you know. I d I love the two of them. I love the layers that you can feel under their interaction and in their reactions to Joel and Ellie. So great pick. This was uh delightful to watch.
Dave
38:46
Alright, let's make this official server D. Bunting. What do you think about this one?
Sarah
38:51
I am telling you the truth, it's a yes.
Dave
38:53
Tar.
Tara
38:54
Yes, for me too.
Dave
38:55
I'm gonna go yes as well. So Cabin couple from The Last of Us, you are hereby inducted into the Extra Hot Great tiny familial authenticity cabin.
Clip
39:09
Americans love a winner. Yeah. And will not tolerate a loser. Nope.
Dave
39:15
It is time to discover who are our not quite winners and not quite losers of the week. I will go first. Netflix securing Seinfeld for a few more years, just a reason to play this clip, which I recently came across in our latest rewatch.
Clip
39:42
Really?
Dave
39:46
Thanks, Kenneth. And not quite loser of the week is the God of War TV adaptation. Again, getting slagged on. You know, first of all, they're just killing actors left and right with whatever they're doing on the set, dropping swords from high places, going through skulls
Tara
39:59
Yeah.
Sarah
40:01
Jesus.
Tara
40:02
Mm-hmm.
Dave
40:02
Uh, but this time the voice actor from the video game's all like, well, why do you guys just use the writers and everything from the actual game?
Sarah
40:03
Yeah
Tara
40:10
Mm-hmm.
Dave
40:11
I understand the compunction to say that.
Tara
40:13
Sure.
Dave
40:13
And sometimes you have writers and video games that are very talented and can slip over to other mediums. Sometimes you don't. And let me tell you this about the God of War franchise. It's not exactly the most subtle thing in the universe. So I think, you know, anybody can do the job they need as far as the action sequences go and things like that. But what you need to figure out is what's the actual show around all that. And I think that's the task that you give to a screenwriter, probably.
Tara
40:41
Yeah.
Dave
40:41
I have played video games with such good writing that it made me wish there was product around it, like Team Fortress 2 back in the day where it was just like crazy 60s spy weirdness. That turned into just this sprawling weird lore system. So I can see it working, but it's not universal. And I don't think it's the god of war, is the one you want to make your case on.
Tara
41:03
Really, probably not.
Dave
41:04
Yeah. Sarah?
Sarah
41:06
My not quite winner is uh Doctor Who It's getting new Blu-ray box sets. Uh, those are available for pre-order on Amazon. So if you are looking to update or have them on physical media, you can do that. Got some losers near Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Not quite loser A, the manager who fired Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a client due to his age just before Morgan booked Grey's Anatomy and Supernatural. And also the Walking Dead fans who still swear at Morgan in the street for killing Glenn ten years ago.
Clip
41:46
People, what a bunch of bastards
Dave
41:50
Three of five so far, guys.
Sarah
41:52
Oh God. I mean, I can't really top that, nor need I, so I will throw a Tara
Tara
41:58
My not quite winner of the week is hacks as Gene Smart and Hannah Einbinder. It's Co-leads sign on to play their characters live on stage in the one night only for your consideration event. Deborah Vance and Friends and Enemies Live, which first of all, great name. And second of all, great idea.
Sarah
42:16
Yeah, great.
Tara
42:18
I I mean I you know, I know that Gene Smart is not a real stand-up comic. Hannah Einbinder is, in addition to being an actor. But this sounds like a very fun idea and gives them a chance to, you know, test those skills on the uh on the live stage. I wish I were living anywhere near there, because that would be fun to see. Not quite loser of the week is Hacks co-creator Paul W. Downs, apparently determined to keep Kayla Jimmy's spin-off speculation alive, uh in every interview he does, even as he says he wants to leave hacks as it is, meaning, you know, a closed story, which I think is the right instinct, but in which case, like stop being like, yeah, that would be fun. Like just say, no, we're not gonna do it because you're not. I I disagree with everyone who thinks that's a good idea. Sorry.
Clip
43:07
Girlfriend, what is up with you? So angry girlfriend!
Kari
43:23
Hello friends, Carrie Race here, and it's that time again. Put your helmets and knee pads on and slap your mouth guards in for another edition of the World's Most Dangerous Musical Moments on TV.this month, we're interrogating a whole season of reality TV, The Absolute Bezonkers Insanity that was Superstar USA.back in the summer of 2004, Mike Fleiss, yes, we are talking about the same monster responsible for The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Created a show that was basically just all the horrible auditions from American Idol. But also, we fool these people into actually believing they have made it onto a competition show. And then we make them perform week after week in front of some total no name, tone loak, and vitamin C. Yes, this actually existed. Yes, I watched every episode Yes, I am going to Hell. See you all there. Let's hear how host Brian McFadden, who had just departed his run as a VJ on MTV, introduced the show. Clip one.
Clip
44:34
A hoax so ambitious, you won't believe your eyes or ears. Thousands of singers auditioned, all believing that we were searching for America's best singer. But we're not. We're actually searching for America's worst singer.
Kari
44:47
Wow, can you even believe it? In case you really didn't get it, let him dumb it down for you even more. Clip two
Clip
44:56
So while other talent shows are looking for this. And it was just my mind playing tricks on me. Yeah We're looking for this.
Kari
45:13
Do you get it? Alright, so there are seven episodes of this once they had selected the top twelve finger quotes heavily implied around top. They did makeovers, which were very reminiscent of the psychological warfare. They used to put the models through each cycle of America's top model Here is eventual winner slash loser Jamie who has been given carte blanche with a hairdresser to create a new look and has decided, clip three.
Clip
45:47
I'm thinking like Brittany Spears, that kind of look, you know, I want to be sexy and sassy. She got a very trappy hair.
Kari
45:55
Bless her heart. Alright, let's get to the singing and let's just skip to the final episode and the final three. Let me get this out of the way right now that yes, the show is punching down. I certainly remembered that, but geez, I had forgotten how truly loathsome it was. Our top three are Rosa. dubbed the Latin diva, who, yes, is a horrible singer and frankly showing clinical signs of delusion, but also just has a really thick accent, and we're supposed to think that is really funny. CLIP four.
Clip
46:33
Gotta be the jelly, work your jelly, gotta wait to jelly, work your jelly, gotta wait to jelly, baby, Cause you've been about to baby, gotta work the jelly
Kari
46:43
Then we've got Mario, who is not a classically handsome young man and is probably on the spectrum, but he's been transformed into a rock god. Which by 2004 standards means they put him in a leather jacket and spiked his hair. Clip five.
Clip
47:02
Don't wanna close my eyes I don't wanna fall asleep because I miss you, baby. And I don't want to miss the thing.
Kari
47:13
And finally, Jamie, who we already met. Wikipedia sums it up perfectly by noting that she was constantly mocked by judges with thinly veiled references to the largeness of her breasts. Jesus H. Christ people, why am I subjecting you to this? I'm so sorry. Clip six.
Clip
47:33
A we a PDT, you know what I mean to me, ABS BDT, take care of me.
Kari
47:45
Okay, I know you have questions about how they accomplished this. Like how did they keep the studio audience from very obviously conveying through facial expressions that these singers were causing them physical pain. Oh, the producers told them that the contestants were make-a-wish participants. How did the contestants not catch on when they heard how badly the other lunatics chosen for this nonsense sung? Oh, they never let any of them hear the others sing. So, Rosa gets eliminated and then they make Jamie and Mario sing together. Brian asks breathlessly, will these two figure it out now when they hear how bad the other is? Clip 7.
Clip
48:27
Here we go! And with cash in the prize, there's no way we could disguise its be released. So we take each other's hands, cause we think we want to make- J'ai un petit peu de temps.
Kari
48:47
Um, the answer to that is no, absolutely not, because Mario is too busy trying to remember the simple choreography that consists of him stepping back and forth, back and forth. And Jamie is too busy acting like she is performing an encore on the tenth night of a sold-out run at Carnegie Hall. It's a lot. It's a lot, a lot. It's too much. Jamie wins. They run a package of her highlights slash lowlights on the show. Call her sexy about fifty more times. Barf. And then Brian says, clip eight.
Clip
49:22
As you can see, we were looking for a person with Such an unconditional belief in their own ability that nothing could stop them. Not even a lousy singing voice
Kari
49:34
Dun dun dun. He tells her they were looking for someone who thought they were America's best singer, and they lied to her when they said she was a good singer. Clip 9.
Clip
49:45
But we didn't lie to you about how much this audience loves you right now.
Kari
49:52
Okay, first of all, Fuck you. Second of all You didn't tell her anything about the audience. She experienced it? Third of all, Fuck you. They offer her the chance to actually work on an album while she stands there looking like she has no earthly idea what is going on. on which fair enough Jamie like they're trying to act like you're a total idiot but this is very confusing And then they show vitamin C and Tone Loke who don't even have the decency to look ashamed. You know who should be embarrassed by all this? Those two. You dumbasses acting like you're better than this. Mister couldn't get her off my jock like she was static cling. Miz, come whatever, we will still be friends forever. Gross Alright, what's the lesson here kids? First of all, Fuck everyone involved in the show on the production side. Second of all, we were not ready for Rosa's Jelly. Third of all, let your freak flag fly because honestly, who can judge you? Tone loke? Vitamin C? I don't think so. Until we meet again, be listening for the dangerous musical moments around every corner.
Sarah
51:20
Hello, Grand Pie. Welcome back. You missed a marvellous and heavy-handed discussion of Reacher Season 4. We talked about unused Dave soundboard cues. We bickered gently about a tiny canon entry from one of your fellow listeners. You missed a lot, but you don't have to. You can kick up that pledge, get an entire full new episode every week. No need to ask yourself if it's worth it, but you might ask yourself if you know what timey whimey it is.
Tara
51:52
Oh no, is it the Doctor Who Gained Time?
Dave
51:52
Don't know. Is it
Sarah
51:56
It is
Dave
51:57
Um boy.
Tara
51:57
Ah
Clip
52:00
This will be the first time we're back.
Dave
52:09
I want to say for the benefit of our grandpa's here that I have managed to work in four of the five sound clips I wish got more play on the podcast.
Tara
52:19
Mm-hmm.
Dave
52:19
And the last one's gonna be really hard to figure out. So I just want to let the grandpas know if there's some weird clip that plays and makes no sense to them. It makes no sense to anybody.
Sarah
52:28
So yes, it is non-regulation game time. I was thinking sort of idly the other day that it might be interesting to Power rank all the doctors who in history, I, as is well documented, do not really care about the show. Sorry, friends. But I do care about a lot of the actors who have played various doctors, and I thought it might make for a good discussion. Three minutes of research told me that it would make for a long discussion and a lot of math, so I thought let's turn it into a game instead and then only I have to do math. Doctor Who adjacent content for you, no real prep work for my co-hosts, and the winner will receive as their prize something extremely British that is also an acquired taste.
Dave
53:14
Nice
Sarah
53:16
Here's here's how it works that that gentle rushing sound you hear is listeners fleeing. Here's how it works. Going in chronological order, I will give Tara and Dave the name of an actor who played the Doctor. They'll each guess the number of episodes that that actor served as Doctor Who.
Dave
53:31
Yeah.
Sarah
53:33
Closest to the Pin gets a point, Bullseye gets two points, and Closest to the Pin also gets the opportunity to guess the actor's total number of IMDB entries.
Tara
53:45
Mm
Sarah
53:45
come within ten, you get another point, and a bullseye here is three points. If you are equidistant from the pin, you will each get the initial point, and you'll both get to play for the extra points. If that comes up we will get to it.
Tara
54:00
Okay.
Sarah
54:00
We are not trying to Fuck with fugitive doctors or war doctors or regenerated tenants or any of that shit. We're going headline doctors here. If you're Paul McGann's lawyer, you could see me at the class. 12 questions, no equalizing. Is everybody ready to cram into a magical phone booth for Dr. How Many?
Tara
54:18
Sure
Sarah
54:20
PICCI, can you please tell us who will be going first?
Dave
54:22
Doctor Hamini
Clip
54:25
We will start with David.
Sarah
54:27
Oh, excellent, David. Alright, we'll begin with William Hartnell. Or Hartnell. Hartnell, who knows?
Dave
54:35
Billy H.
Sarah
54:37
Everyone can uh pronounce anything any way they want. Dave, how many episodes did William Hartnell serve as Doctor Who? Begin the bidding, please.
Dave
54:45
Hmm, can I get the language of origin? No idea even what doctor that is, so I'm gonna assume he's one of the black and white doctors.
Tara
54:52
I assume Sarah's going in alpha in chronological order.
Dave
54:54
Oh oh you're that's right. You said you're going chronologically. My apologies. So he's the first one so he's the first one back when that was I think on his episodes just died somewhere. They copied over. I'm I'm stalling. I probably in a few episod few seasons, I'm gonna guess, and they were making approximately seventy two thousand episodes per season back then.
Sarah
55:08
Mm-hmm
Dave
55:16
So I'm gonna put him at 321.
Sarah
55:19
Wow
Tara
55:19
Jesus Christ
Dave
55:20
I don't know what I'm doing. I don't know, Doctor. Was it a soap opera to start off with or something?
Tara
55:24
I don't know. Uh my my thought as soon as his name came up was 60, so I'm gonna say 60, and it's somewhere, I assume, around them, between them maybe, who knows?
Dave
55:32
Yeah, I kind of overbid it. Yeah, I don't there might have not even been 300 Doctor Who episodes total so far.
Sarah
55:35
Okay
Tara
55:38
I don't know.
Dave
55:39
I don't know. Okay, let's go.
Tara
55:40
Yeah.
Sarah
55:40
There were, and I watched them all to confirm.
Dave
55:42
Okay.
Tara
55:43
Oh.
Sarah
55:43
Just kidding. I didn't. Uh the actual answer is 144, and that puts Tara closest to the pin.
Dave
55:46
All right.
Tara
55:46
Oh. Okay, great.
Dave
55:49
Great.
Sarah
55:49
So it's A point. Tara had now you and you alone.
Dave
55:53
Let me ask you this before you proceed, Sarah. Do you want the Doctor Whom theme the Doctor Who theme to be the score tension music throughout this whole thing?
Sarah
56:01
No, thank you. Thank you for asking, though.
Tara
56:05
Okay.
Dave
56:05
What if was it the orbital version of it?
Sarah
56:08
Still no thank you.
Dave
56:09
Yeah, okay.
Sarah
56:09
Tara, how many total IMDB credits did Big Billy Hartnell have?
Tara
56:15
Eighty six.
Sarah
56:16
Ooh, very close. 90, but you do get an extra point for that.
Tara
56:20
Whoa. Okay
Sarah
56:22
Because you're within ten. Next round, Tara will start us off. I don't actually know how you pronounce this, Patrick Trufton.
Tara
56:29
Okay, mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Dave
56:30
Sounds right.
Sarah
56:30
Trotten?
Dave
56:31
Yeah.
Sarah
56:32
Marvel? Alright, Tara, how many episodes did Trufton serve as Doctor Who?
Tara
56:38
Uh ninety four
Sarah
56:41
Okay, Dave
Dave
56:43
Alright, second Doctor Who. Everybody loves the first Doctor Who. They're really sad that There's the second Doctor Who now, and they've come up with this regeneration bullshit to explain the new actor. Everybody hates him so much that somebody murders him at Hammersmith. He is dead. He only gets to do twenty-two episodes before he's sh killed, stabbed in the head with a blunderbuss's bayonet.
Tara
57:01
Okay
Sarah
57:04
Um Wow, blunderbuses have bayonets. The the things that you're learning about uh Doctor Hoostery
Dave
57:16
Uh, I just want to remind you, I am British.
Tara
57:19
Yeah.
Dave
57:19
I know things.
Tara
57:21
Oh, we'll see
Sarah
57:21
Not this thing. He was in one hundred and twenty-eight episodes of Doctor Who.
Dave
57:28
The Fuck.
Sarah
57:28
That means Tara gets the point there.
Dave
57:31
I'm doing great
Sarah
57:32
Yeah, you're doing you're doing really great. Tara, once again, on your own to guess how many total IMDB credits are listed for Mr. Patrick Trufton.
Tara
57:43
Sixty five
Sarah
57:44
No. Not close enough for a point. 234.
Dave
57:50
Wow.
Tara
57:50
Okay.
Sarah
57:51
Yeah. All right, Dave, you're back up. Trying to get on the board here with John Purtui. Pr per twe?
Clip
57:58
The low point I want to go and go back.
Dave
57:58
Virtually.
Sarah
57:59
Pertwee Twee.
Dave
58:00
Yeah.
Tara
58:00
Petrie
Sarah
58:01
How how many Doctor Who episodes was uh the Pertster in?
Clip
58:02
I want to come back.
Dave
58:05
Still don't know any of these names yet.
Clip
58:05
The low critical
Dave
58:07
The only one I know, sorry, I think the first doctor's name that I know is Tom Baker.
Tara
58:11
Mm-hmm.
Dave
58:11
And I think he's the scarf guy. And he was for me Doctor Who.
Tara
58:14
Right
Dave
58:15
Because that was the one that I saw when I was flipping through channels and Doctor Who comes on like AHHHH Fuck
Tara
58:18
Not stopping.
Sarah
58:21
Not stopping
Tara
58:22
Kicking your TV in when you saw his image. Yes
Dave
58:27
I'm gonna guess seventy-one
Sarah
58:30
Okay, Tara?
Tara
58:32
He's the not Tom Baker one? I'm gonna say fifty.
Sarah
58:38
Well, David T. Cole, you are on the board.
Dave
58:40
Yeah
Sarah
58:41
He actually was a hundred and thirty-two episode veteran of Doctor Who. And how many total IMDb credits, Dave? This is just you playing and you're trying to get within 10. How many total IMDb credits for per tweed?
Dave
58:56
Per twee. How many movies per per twe? Um I'm gonna say uh fifty-one.
Sarah
59:01
Kur twirect, no. I'm sorry, it was seventy-nine
Dave
59:08
Fuck! I was gonna guess the same number I guess for the Doctor Who thing, and they fucking blew it. I would have been within ten. God damn it.
Sarah
59:14
Yeah, you would have been. But alas, you failed. Uh that does bring us, however, to Tom Baker. Tar will begin the bidding.
Tara
59:22
Yeah
Sarah
59:22
With uh how many stripy scarves, well, not total scarves, but how many episodes in which he wore a scarf was Tom Baker in of Doctor Who?
Tara
59:26
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah, based on how many dozens of episodes the ones we don't remember did, I'm gonna guess this is like Two sixty.
Dave
59:40
Wow. Yeah, I think it's big as well.
Sarah
59:41
Well
Dave
59:43
But I think maybe they started making less episodes by that time.
Tara
59:46
This is the question
Dave
59:47
259 please.
Tara
59:49
Oh I did God, please say two sixty-one.
Sarah
59:50
Wow It was a dick move, but it worked. 178.
Tara
01:00:00
Good job, Dave.
Dave
01:00:01
Thank you.
Sarah
01:00:01
Dave is closer to the pin with Tom Baker. How many Other things did Tom Baker do? How many total IMDB entries for the bake
Dave
01:00:10
I think Tom Baker might be out or s outside of our house right now, collecting the garbage very noisily. Let's just give it a moment.
Tara
01:00:18
Mm-hmm.
Dave
01:00:18
Let the j You know if Doctor Who had a garbage disposal system it would work really well because you can just roll up with this TARDIS and throw everything in there and it's like bigger on the inside, right?
Tara
01:00:18
Or he's dead, who knows? Mm-hmm, yeah
Dave
01:00:28
So you can just he's got some sort of system.
Sarah
01:00:29
Uh-huh.
Dave
01:00:30
Waste management Doctor Who look into it. I know the reboot in the series or something.
Tara
01:00:34
Anyway
Dave
01:00:34
Think think about it. What was the question? How many do okay, here's the thing with Tom Baker. I think he is like the first iconic Doctor Who, like he's got his own blah blah.
Tara
01:00:44
Yeah.
Dave
01:00:44
look and feel and tone. I'm talking about my ass, but I get the feeling he's like the first modern Doctor Who kind of guy.
Tara
01:00:52
Yeah
Dave
01:00:52
So I think he probably had lots and lots of like tiny little bit rolls from people that want them in their shitty sci-fi project ten years later and stuff.
Tara
01:01:00
Right.
Dave
01:01:02
So I'm gonna put it at an even 100.
Sarah
01:01:05
That's uh pretty smart thinking, but it was actually even more shit than you thought. 125
Dave
01:01:10
Yeah
Tara
01:01:11
Wow.
Sarah
01:01:11
125 IMDB entries. I am sorry. That is not within 10. Now we're back in, I suspect, who? Territory with Peter Davison. Peter Davison.
Dave
01:01:24
Host of Hollywood Squares, UK edition
Tara
01:01:27
Star of the girl with something extra with an a you in extra somewhere
Sarah
01:01:34
He wishes Peter Davison, David T. Cole.
Dave
01:01:38
Is he the one that wears like the weird hat?
Tara
01:01:40
You're asking the wrong two people.
Sarah
01:01:41
You're asking me?
Dave
01:01:42
Isn't it one of them that has like a pork pie hat or something?
Tara
01:01:45
Uh I doesn't Tom Bak Tom Baker has a hat too.
Dave
01:01:45
Doctor Who people are so mad right now
Sarah
01:01:46
I'm sure there is.
Tara
01:01:49
Anyway
Sarah
01:01:49
I cannot confirm and will not
Dave
01:01:51
All right, post Baker Baker was 120 something, right?
Tara
01:01:55
No, it was like a hundred and seventy something.
Dave
01:01:55
Or what oh 170, yeah.
Clip
01:01:56
Kate on both ring on the cut because I want to go both quick
Sarah
01:01:57
Hundred and seventy eight Tara.
Dave
01:01:58
I'm gonna say 152.
Tara
01:02:01
A hundred and fifty one Woo.
Sarah
01:02:03
Oh well look these dick moves work 70 so Tara's closest to the pin, picks up a point.
Dave
01:02:04
You turn out
Tara
01:02:10
Mhm.
Sarah
01:02:11
Given that we, uh, you know, are making jokes about him because we don't remember who he is, this guess might be tough, but Tara, you can pick up another point or three by guessing how many IMDB entries Peter Davison has.
Tara
01:02:16
Yeah, mm-hmm One oh one.
Sarah
01:02:27
Oh, so close.
Tara
01:02:29
Oh no, damn
Sarah
01:02:29
One twenty-three, one twenty-three. No extra points there And now it's another Baker, Colin Baker, possibly second Britishest name in the world.
Dave
01:02:38
Okay.
Tara
01:02:41
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
01:02:42
His middle name is Nigel. Tara, you're starting us off. How many who hoopisodes, sorry, I won't do that again, was Colin Baker in? Hmm.
Dave
01:02:55
Do you want to have a mutual pack that we won't uh do the one dollar over under thing?
Sarah
01:02:55
David?
Tara
01:02:58
Sure. Yes.
Dave
01:02:59
Okay. 79. No, just kidding.
Tara
01:03:02
Days like m seventy eight T
Dave
01:03:03
I think it's lower, but then again, what the Fuck do I know? What was the last one? How many episodes did the last guy have?
Sarah
01:03:10
Peter Davison had seventy.
Dave
01:03:10
Eighty something? Seventy. Sixty-five.
Sarah
01:03:14
Good call. That's one point for you. He was only in thirty-five episodes as Doctor Who.
Dave
01:03:18
Oh. What happened?
Clip
01:03:22
Well,
Dave
01:03:22
What happened, Mr. Davison
Sarah
01:03:24
I don't know. Maybe he was busy with other stuff, but the question, Dave, is how busy was he?
Dave
01:03:28
Yeah. Oh,
Sarah
01:03:30
How many total IMDB entries for Colin Baker?
Dave
01:03:35
Was Sarah trying to throw me off the scent right there with her little little suggestion about how much work he might have outside if he only had that many episodes of Doctor Who.
Sarah
01:03:44
No, I'm just rambling on to fill to fill time.
Dave
01:03:47
Eatin' clock.
Sarah
01:03:48
As usual hundred and forty-one
Dave
01:03:52
Seventy. You didn't let me finish. Times two. Hey, speaking about number two.
Clip
01:04:04
Stanley Steam, you certified cleaner.
Sarah
01:04:10
That was a gorgeous, gorgeous segue. And I appreciate you. Sylvester McCoy Yes, this is I know ex
Dave
01:04:18
Wow, not a real name
Tara
01:04:21
I I if you had asked me if this if a question in this game was how many doctors who were there before Christopher Eccleston, I would have said like three. Like these are guys I've never heard of.
Dave
01:04:31
Oh, they're up to like fourteen or something now, I think.
Tara
01:04:34
I had no idea.
Sarah
01:04:35
Yeah
Dave
01:04:35
I only know I I know this piece of Doctor Who trivia.
Tara
01:04:38
Mm-hmm.
Dave
01:04:39
At some point, some idiot in the writing room decided to put a hard number in the number of times Doctor Who can regenerate way back in the day where it seemed like an infathomable future problem.
Clip
01:04:40
Oh, yeah.
Tara
01:04:45
Right. Mm-hmm.
Dave
01:04:49
And they already surpassed that. I think there's only supposed to be like ten doctors and now they're on like the fifteenth or fourteenth or something like that. And they're I don't know how they explained it doctorally, I suppose.
Tara
01:04:55
Yeah, uh huh, uh huh.
Dave
01:04:59
But that's not the kind that's not the kind of favor you want to pass forward.
Sarah
01:05:00
I mean I think the fact that Tennant regenerated himself with some kind of loophole on this and counting fugitive war and
Tara
01:05:02
Okay.
Sarah
01:05:11
some backdoor US reboot situation that flopped.
Tara
01:05:14
Right.
Sarah
01:05:15
I think it's 18, but again, not going back to check.
Tara
01:05:16
Oh my god.
Dave
01:05:16
Wow
Tara
01:05:17
Okay. Sylvester McCoy, is that what you said?
Sarah
01:05:20
Yes, yes, that's what I said. How many Doctor Who episodes for that bro?
Tara
01:05:25
Forty
Clip
01:05:26
Oh,
Dave
01:05:26
Yeah, I've never heard of this guy. Doesn't mean anything for the numbers. The last one was 35-ish. I'm gonna go 62.
Sarah
01:05:35
Interesting. It was actually forty-two, so that's a point for Tara. Very close. Very close.
Tara
01:05:43
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
01:05:43
Uh how many other things did McCoy do? Not not the good McCoy, like you like.
Tara
01:05:50
One twenty three Holy Shit
Sarah
01:05:51
Oh my god, 122. You're so close. So that is one more point before Tara
Tara
01:06:00
Yay.
Sarah
01:06:00
Let's do one more round. We're into the ones you've heard of.
Dave
01:06:04
Okay.
Tara
01:06:04
Great.
Sarah
01:06:04
One more round and then we'll do a score break.
Tara
01:06:06
Okay
Dave
01:06:06
Okay.
Sarah
01:06:07
It's Eccleston, baby.
Dave
01:06:09
Okay.
Sarah
01:06:10
How many episodes as Doctor Who?
Dave
01:06:14
Who's who's who's guessing?
Tara
01:06:15
Yeah.
Dave
01:06:19
Excuse me.
Sarah
01:06:20
Dave start us off
Dave
01:06:21
All this talk of Doctor Who is made my stomach act up. So this is the reboot era with the terrible logo And I think he left pretty quickly, as I recall. He's like, am I starring in a show where garbage bins are eating people? Maybe I should leave. Go do that really good episode of the leftovers. I think maybe it's just one or two seasons and they're obviously doing less episodes here, so I'm gonna put him at twenty-seven.
Sarah
01:06:42
Yeah All right, Tara.
Tara
01:06:52
Thirty three
Sarah
01:06:54
Well, you had the right instinct, Dave, but it was actually thirteen episodes.
Dave
01:06:58
Oh, just one season.
Tara
01:06:59
Whoa.
Sarah
01:06:59
Thirteen.
Dave
01:07:00
Okay.
Sarah
01:07:00
So that is a point for Dave.
Tara
01:07:00
Well, good job.
Dave
01:07:02
All right.
Sarah
01:07:02
And Dave can now guess for a person that he's actually heard of how many total IMDB entries for Eccleston.
Tara
01:07:04
Oof And remember that includes the movie that Sassy reviewed in the November nineteen ninety-one issue that we just talked about.
Sarah
01:07:15
Uh-huh.
Dave
01:07:16
What was that?
Tara
01:07:17
Don't remember what it's called.
Dave
01:07:17
Yeah, okay. Yeah, guy has been in some stuff, and I've heard of him.
Tara
01:07:23
Let him have it, that's what it was called.
Dave
01:07:24
182
Clip
01:07:25
Or a cut ring bowl.
Sarah
01:07:25
Yes.
Tara
01:07:26
Hmm, good guess.
Clip
01:07:26
I want to go on the colour.
Sarah
01:07:28
Ninety eight.
Dave
01:07:29
What?
Tara
01:07:29
Really?
Dave
01:07:30
You didn't let me finish.
Sarah
01:07:30
Yeah
Tara
01:07:32
Times two
Sarah
01:07:33
Divided by two.
Dave
01:07:33
Divided by two
Sarah
01:07:38
Yeah, we're we're not doing that long division shit in here.
Tara
01:07:40
Hmm.
Sarah
01:07:41
Can we have a score break, please?
Tara
01:07:43
It's pretty close according to my tabulations. Four points for Dave, six points for me is what I have.
Dave
01:07:51
Doctor scores!
Tara
01:07:52
Dave, do you concur?
Dave
01:07:54
What was it?
Tara
01:07:54
Four for you, six for me.
Dave
01:07:56
That's what I have, I concur.
Clip
01:07:56
I am bombarding a gold dog.
Tara
01:07:57
Hooray.
Sarah
01:07:57
That's also what I have.
Tara
01:07:59
Yay.
Dave
01:08:00
Hey!
Tara
01:08:01
Everyone concurs
Sarah
01:08:02
All right, but But we are, again, in the whose you've heard of, like not who with a question Mark weekly.
Tara
01:08:09
Yes.
Sarah
01:08:09
So uh let's uh continue on to David Tennant, tenant of Who's Phil.
Tara
01:08:10
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yep. Right
Dave
01:08:14
Oh
Tara
01:08:16
Mm-hmm. Tendant two. Ha ha, just kidding. Um, my answer is fifty three.
Dave
01:08:24
Oh my god, okay, I just want to show you. I wrote down my guess already.
Tara
01:08:28
Fuck Yeah, you can.
Dave
01:08:28
So I'm gonna use it because it was done honestly. But what I was thinking was I think he was probably in three or four seasons.
Tara
01:08:31
Absolutely
Clip
01:08:34
What do we do?
Dave
01:08:35
Let's go with four. Let's multiply Eccleston's. So I I came about 52.
Tara
01:08:39
Yeah, okay.
Dave
01:08:40
So not a dick move, honest.
Tara
01:08:41
No, I believe you
Dave
01:08:42
Okay.
Sarah
01:08:43
Alas, Tara is closer to the pin.
Dave
01:08:44
Fuck.
Sarah
01:08:47
Fifty-nine episodes.
Dave
01:08:51
A damn simple multiplication.
Sarah
01:08:53
I know. Good instincts, everyone.
Tara
01:08:55
Oh boy, this fucker works.
Sarah
01:08:56
Tara, how many how many IMDB entries for David Tennant
Dave
01:09:01
Does that include voice acting? It does, right?
Tara
01:09:03
It's everything.
Dave
01:09:04
Mm-hmm.
Tara
01:09:05
One five one
Sarah
01:09:08
One nine five.
Dave
01:09:10
Yeah.
Sarah
01:09:11
One nine five
Tara
01:09:12
I said this fucker works and he does.
Dave
01:09:14
Yeah
Sarah
01:09:14
Yeah, yeah, he does. All right, moving on, as we must, although not all fans felt the same, to Matt Smith. Matt Smith, David T. Cole, how many Doctor Who episodes?
Dave
01:09:27
I think he was there for a little bit. But I don't think he I'm gonna say 42, the meaning of life.
Tara
01:09:36
Fifty five
Sarah
01:09:37
The correct answer was 50, that once again puts Tara closest to the pin Yeah, well, I don't think she's happy about winning this either, but anyhow. Tara, how many total IMDB entries would you say Matt Smith has? Trying to get within ten.
Tara
01:10:01
One forty
Sarah
01:10:03
Sixty-five.
Tara
01:10:04
Really? I feel like I see him all the time.
Sarah
01:10:05
Yeah, right Yeah.
Tara
01:10:08
All right.
Sarah
01:10:08
I I feel like that too, but I guess it was uh guess it was a little more recent than we thought. So no extra points there. All right Last two questions. Peter Capaldi. Tara Ariano. How many Doctor Who episodes for that guy?
Tara
01:10:23
I feel like he wasn't there for very long, so I'm gonna say twenty-five.
Sarah
01:10:28
Dave.
Dave
01:10:29
Yeah. Um, let's see if we're d I'm gonna say thirty one.
Sarah
01:10:33
Point for David T. Cole. It was forty-four episodes for Capaldi.
Tara
01:10:35
Who
Sarah
01:10:38
Forty-four episodes. Capaldi has a bunch of IMDB entries. How big is a bunch? That's on David T. Cole to guess.
Dave
01:10:45
Mm-hmm. Dude's working. He's old. Oh boy. But we've had a a slew of British.
Sarah
01:10:51
He's British. They're in everything.
Tara
01:10:55
He's Scottish actually, if you want to be precise.
Dave
01:10:57
Hey, there we could be two things.
Tara
01:11:01
Naked.
Dave
01:11:03
But we've had a slew of ones that are like, but that's low. So now I'm second.
Tara
01:11:07
Mm-hmm.
Dave
01:11:08
I'm gonna go in the middle of those two extremes and say an even 100.
Sarah
01:11:13
137.
Dave
01:11:14
God damn it
Sarah
01:11:14
137 for Peter Capaldi. No points awarded, I'm afraid. Alright. Last one.
Tara
01:11:22
What about Shudigawa? You skipped him?
Sarah
01:11:26
He was saved for the tiebreaker.
Tara
01:11:27
Oh, got it.
Sarah
01:11:28
Should we need it?
Dave
01:11:29
Yeah, we'll definitely need to go to the tiebreaker.
Tara
01:11:33
Yeah, the lady one
Sarah
01:11:35
Last one, lady one, Jody Whitaker. Dave, how many episodes for Jody Whitaker? Lady Whitaker
Dave
01:11:43
Yeah, Lady Whittaker. Twenty-five
Sarah
01:11:47
Tara.
Tara
01:11:47
Thirty five
Sarah
01:11:49
Tara, it's a little a little upsetting how good you are at this game 32 was the answer, so that point is for Tara.
Tara
01:11:54
Damn.
Sarah
01:11:57
And would you like now to try to rack up even more points? And guess how many IMDB entries for Jody Whitaker total?
Tara
01:12:02
Sure Seventy Five Woo
Sarah
01:12:07
72. Well done.
Dave
01:12:08
Jesus.
Sarah
01:12:09
One last point for the road.
Dave
01:12:11
Wow
Sarah
01:12:13
I can hear the scores, please, and then declare a victor.
Tara
01:12:16
Okay. Dave had five points and then we multiplied that by two. He hee and I have ten.
Sarah
01:12:26
Yeah, number two, that is. Well, thank you for tolerating this game. I do have a tiebreaker. We can play it for a seal meal if you like.
Dave
01:12:33
Yep. Let's do it.
Tara
01:12:34
Sure.
Sarah
01:12:35
All right. Most recent whoti gatwa. Dave, would you like to go first?
Dave
01:12:41
Fifteen I think he just lasted one season, but I'm not sure.
Sarah
01:12:41
How many total Fifteen, okay, Tara, it's nineteen, so
Dave
01:12:46
And I think he did a movie or something after that.
Tara
01:12:48
Nineteen. No, no, no, no, nineteen. On the dot! That's the one I get exactly right.
Sarah
01:12:55
Yeah, on the dot.
Tara
01:12:57
Fuuuuck.
Sarah
01:12:58
Yep
Tara
01:12:59
Woo
Clip
01:13:07
Tara.
Tara
01:13:07
Me.
Dave
01:13:08
Ah, Tara, you love Doctor Who
Sarah
01:13:11

Dave
01:16:32

Tara
01:16:38

Dave
01:16:39

Tara
01:17:01
Yep.
Dave
01:17:02

Clip
01:18:01
This is Extra Hot Great Minis. Today's topic, Doctor Who Reintroduction. So a little while ago, um, we were talking about Peter Capaldi being the new, I don't know, what is it, 12th, 13th Doctor, something like that on Doctor Who. And I put it to our readers on Previously. tv as somebody who is you know, a little bit familiar with the Doctor Who universe, but has sort of not really been engaged with the modern Doctor Who. What are the episodes I should watch to sort of get a flavor? of modern Doctor Who um because I'm sort of like in the bag to watch Peter Capaldi and what he's gonna do with it. At least give him a chance. So I had two episodes that were kind of came up again and again from suggestions. One was from the first season with uh Christopher Eccleson called uh Down. Which are the exterminate robot guys from Doctor Who, and the other one was a later episode called Blink. So I watched them both and I just wanted to give a really quick you know, state of the Dave Cole, Doctor Who, potential marriage like ability, maybe not union. So Dalek was a giant it was like ten pounds of stupid in like a two-pound bag. I hated this episode. And here's a clip uh with a robot, an emotional robot dying. What? Okay, just listen to it. No. I am dying. Oh god. I welcome to death. I am glad that before I die, I have met a human who was not afraid. Isn't there anything I can do? My race is dead. I shall die. Uh low. Low Winter sun. Um you have hibernation sickness, your eyesight will return in time. I was just learning how to love. What is this emotion you humans call up love? Um I kind of understand where they're going with this mix of goofy and and serious stuff, and it does kind of throw back to the mix of earlier ones, but this episode was just too goofy for me. I could not handle it. And I almost gave up on Doctor Who right there and then. I'm like, oh yeah, this is the Doctor Who that I gave up on before when I watched the first episode of that season and there were like garbage bins turning into like eating people and turning them into rubber or something like that. somehow strange enough at the same time, you know, like I can handle axe cop goofiness, but I can't handle mixing goofy with like trying to be serious at the same time. It just put me off. So I almost gave up, but then I watched Blink and Blink like totally turned me around on Doctor Who. It's really, really good. I think a lot of people s say it's probably the best episode of Doctor Who. It's written by Stephen Moffat who did Sherlock, which we mean Tara really like. Really good show. If you haven't seen it, definitely check it out. Um it centers around a non uh series regulator played by uh Carrie Mulligan from uh Education, right? And um and she kind of stumbles into this story that's sort of like half Monster of the Week, but half sort of like looper time travel stuff and I don't want to ruin the plot because I think it's actually pretty good and you do want to go into it with um fresh eyes. But it's like this is the episode for a non Doctor Who fan to get introduced into the show because it's actually pretty light on Doctor Who And Mulligan plays this really relatable character and they introduce time travel in a really digestible and kind of clever manner And David Tennett, who plays the Doctor by this point, is so much better than Christopher Eccleson was. He brings this sort of like manic, whatever the male version of a pixie is. charm to the role and he doesn't actually appear in the episode in the world until right at the end of the episode. And when he does, it's like If you don't have a shit eating grin on your face when he's on the screen, you're dead, because it's a really good, you know, little button on the episode. So if you like Sherlock or X-Files and you've been scared by Doctor Who. and you're thinking about maybe watching it when maybe Peter Capaldi's in and maybe the tone will change and that seems like a good place to come into it, watch Blink. That is my recommendation. I think it's really good I think even Tari you would like it. I will commit to being present while you watch it. Okay. That's that's as far as I know. Yeah, bl that sort of gets that episode consistently makes like top ten scariest TV episodes ever lists and people talk about it with like genuine sense memory I'm gonna add red I'm gonna add another show If you like Buffy, Blink is a good episode too. It has a Buffy Monster kind of feel to it too. So uh Doctor Who, I'm in for Capaldi and I really highly recommend Blink and I want to thank all the users on the site who contributed to that uh that recommendation list. It was really great. Thank you all. Uh Dave Out.
