The Kings are back on network TV with Cupertino, which basically transplants the signature qualities of the Good Wife-verse to Silicon Valley — and Margaret H. Willison is back to talk about whether that’s a good choice, the cameos we’re looking forward to, and how the show can loop other storylines into a tech-forward plot brief. We went Around The Dial with Below, Love Is Blind‘s Boston season, GBBO‘s audience episode, and Kill. Bury. Print., and Margaret hoped we’d crown an episode of the original King show, The Good Wife, for the Canon. Nicolas Cage won, Kelly Clarkson lost, and we tried to guess which hosts had the most (acting experience) in Game Time. Build yourself a hallway to the EHG conference room and join us!

Dave
00:20
This is the Extra Hawk Ray Podcast, episode 636 for the week of October 12th, 2026. I am Killer Drone David T. Cole and I'm here with eight-year-old trying to order a beer, Sarah D. Bunting.
Sarah

Objection sustained
Dave
00:40
Well-connected Italian-American Tar Ariano
Tara
00:42
Hey, cousin Joey.
Dave
00:44
and disconcertingly upbeat song from musical Margaret H. Willison
Guest
00:49
It's a hard knock life, but I'm trying to take things day by day.
Dave
00:55
Welcome everybody to another episode of Extra Hot Grey. A little bit of pod business up top for our club members. You have chosen the sticker you wanted, and the vote was so close that we decided to do the stickers you wanted.
Sarah
01:09
Oh
Tara
01:09
Wow.
Dave
01:10
Separated by only a couple votes, we felt bad only doing one. So we are going to make for you, our club members. Got a lot of shows.
Sarah
01:16
,
Dave
01:17
It's a great time for shows, sticker. And that was authorized by David Roth, so we have permission.
Tara
01:24
Mm-hmm.
Dave
01:24
He wants to be paid in stickers.
Tara
01:26
You can get it for put it on your gross gas canister.
Dave
01:29
That's right. And then also from Tara 's mouth. Save it for your group chat will be our second sticker.
Sarah
01:35
Mm-hmm.
Dave
01:36
So you can get both of those just by being a club member. I will put the designs up sometime soon and also how to get them for our club members. Look for that in the coming weeks.
Tara
01:46
And thanks to everyone who voted, and thanks for everyone who's in the club.
Dave
01:48
Yeah, thank you.
Tara
01:52
For now, she is a writer and a podcaster. You've heard with us many times before. Welcome back, Margaret H. Willison! Welcome back, Margaret!

02:00
Guys, thank you so much for having me. I'm thrilled to be here to discuss Cooper Tino.
Tara
02:06
Yes, we are here to talk about Cupertino, in which S Talk, a Silicon Valley tech company fires two employees on the same day Michael Price, Mike Coulter, a lawyer and co founder who loses his equity, and Olivia Seifer, Rachel Keller, a lawyer who's been working closely with the company's CEO, Richard Everett, Will Brill. When Michael realizes they both have grounds to sue S Talk, they join forces to represent each other, figuring out in the process that they work well together and that they'd probably never run out of clients who've been fucked over by tech companies with evaluations that exceed Economies of many world nations. The show was co-created by Robert and Michelle King, who previously brought us The Good Wife, The Good Fight, and Evil, the show, not the concept. Only one episode has aired so far. On CBS October 8th, we got access to 10, but we will be careful about spoilers. Let's do the chen check-in. Margaret, should our listeners watch Cupertino?
Guest
03:02
Yes.
Tara
03:03
Sarah.
Sarah
03:04
In my opinion, yes
Tara
03:06
Dave.
Dave
03:06
Yep, I enjoyed it.
Tara
03:08
Me too. Let's get into it. The Kings have worked out a pretty solid formula with their lawyer shows. If Cupertino had been a bigger departure from that formula than it is
Guest
03:18
Mm-hmm.
Tara
03:18
Would we have been mad, Margaret?
Guest
03:21
Um, no, because evil is kind of a departure, but the things that make a king show kingy, kingly.
Tara
03:25
Mm-hmm Sure.
Guest
03:29
They're still there
Tara
03:31
Mm-hmm.
Guest
03:31
and they make that show work for me even though I am too scared to ever watch it after dark
Tara
03:36
Mm-hmm. Okay. You're talking about evil, not Cupertino
Dave
03:39
Because of the lawyers.
Guest
03:42
I think they could have gone in different directions. I'm not sure how I feel about a all tech all the time uh slate from them, because
Tara
03:49
Mm-hmm.
Guest
03:50
I like the variations that we would always get on the good wife and the good fight. But based on the pilot, they're doing enough right. I'm gonna keep watching.
Tara
03:58
Sarah, what about you? Would you have liked this to be a greater departure or you're happy as it is?
Sarah
04:04
I think if it had been a greater departure, I would have trusted the process. But when in my notes, which I barely took because I was sufficiently entertained, I wrote, So it's the Good Wife West.
Guest
04:08
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
04:17
you know, Parenz complimentary, like everything about it from the the way the theme song is sung to interstitial music, to the way that when you're sort of watching a scene, but you're also like you're listening to the dialogue, but it can be not placeholder, but just like this is the legally 's chess piece moving in the second act. And you're looking at very striking, attractive people dressed well
Guest
04:48
Very attractive.
Sarah
04:48
and Like it's shot extremely well, which having revisited a good wife episode. For this episode, I was like Oh yeah, like there's always a lot to look at and perhaps that's so you don't examine procedure too closely, but I don't know, like they have a certain magic alchemic blend of Process that's credible and people who have great hair, so you don't give a shit. And like it's Mike Coulter, just watch it on mute.
Guest
05:18
Yeah.
Sarah
05:19
You're not an animal.
Tara
05:21
Dave, same question, and I'll also say since Sarah brought up the trappings, if you want to do a tight five on the uh the font they chose for the look
Dave
05:29
Sure.
Tara
05:29
for the show title, feel free.
Guest
05:31
Yes, please
Dave
05:32
Guys, look, Futura condensed bold is a garbage font. It is unworthy of the name Futura, which is an all-time classic, and it always looks artificially stretched to me.
Tara
05:37
No, not that.
Dave
05:43
And I think maybe they stretch it as well.
Sarah
05:43
Mm-hmm
Dave
05:45
The letting in their other credits, you know, written by whatever, is atrocious. So whoever is dealing with their type at the start of that show, they needed a second go at that.
Guest
05:50
Yeah
Dave
05:53
That said, weakest part of the show was the opening credits, so That's good for them.
Sarah
05:57
Phew
Tara
05:58
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
05:59
Mm-hmm
Dave
05:59
I actually, in contrast to Margaret, really enjoy the fact that this is shaping up to be just tech episodes, but I will say I think Margaret that because tech touches so much of our lives now that I think you're gonna get a lot of non
Guest
06:11
Yeah
Dave
06:13
like I'm a coder and I do things. I think you'll get like music episodes and stuff like that because
Tara
06:17
Mm-hmm.
Dave
06:18
but don't these companies own now?
Guest
06:20
I trust the Kings so much.
Sarah
06:20
Mm-hmm.
Dave
06:21
Yeah, yeah, I agree.
Tara
06:22
Yeah
Dave
06:23
I really like the tech aspect of it because that's sort of my casual keeping up with the universe world, you know, like I keep up with all the
Tara
06:31
Sure.
Guest
06:31
Mm-hmm.
Dave
06:32
tech industry stuff, so that was interesting to me. And they've been like, you know, pretty good. They're they're they're like batting 800 or so with their tech stuff, I think.
Guest
06:38
Yeah.
Dave
06:42
There was one episode where there was a uh iPad following people around on a segue that made me laugh. Um kinda dumb. But anyways, they do generally pretty good.
Tara
06:49
Mm-hmm.
Dave
06:51
So I think the subject matter is in good hands and then they imbue it with all the things that they're known for. The quirky characters, the goofy judges, all that sort of stuff is very familiar.
Guest
07:01
God
Dave
07:01
And I just started watching it and I was like, oh, I'm in the mood for this right now. You know what I mean?
Tara
07:06
Yeah, yep
Sarah
07:06
Yeah.
Dave
07:06
Like this is what I need. I need serious topics taken down 12 pegs
Tara
07:10
Yes.
Dave
07:11
And everybody's a villain who you want to be a villain and like
Tara
07:13
Mm-hmm.
Dave
07:14
just give it to me right now, please.
Tara
07:16
You know, I would love to go a day without thinking about AI or being told about AI, but like this is the show I want to tackle it. This is the team I want to tackle it versus the season premiere of fucking Abbott Elementary.
Dave
07:28
Yeah.
Tara
07:28
Like why? Why?
Dave
07:31
Could we just talk about the AI just for a moment? Because that was one of the things about the tech. I was like, mm-hmm, I don't know about this one
Tara
07:37
You sure?
Dave
07:38
So I get the feeling that the tech villain, the guy that exposes himself to the female lead at the, you know, that's the the genesis of her story, he is sort of presented as Zuckerbergian.
Tara
07:45
Will Brill.
Guest
07:46
Mm-hmm.
Tara
07:46
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. He's in a hoodie.
Dave
07:53
Yeah.
Tara
07:53
He looks like shit.
Guest
07:54
Right, right.
Dave
07:54
He looks like shit. Yeah. He has developed the world's most advanced AI chatbot, a Siri MetaMuse sort of thing. Daisy has a adult mode, a sexy mode, which I don't think any of these companies would do.
Guest
08:07
Mm
Dave
08:09
Like Elon Musk Musk accepted. I think his one actually has dirty dirty vision or something like that
Guest
08:14
Oh it does. Yeah.
Dave
08:16
in Nazi vision and all the other modes they have.
Guest
08:19
He's a free speech warrior, Dave, you know.
Dave
08:21
That isn't the character here. This isn't a must character. So to me he was Zuckerberg and that that app, that part of the app, didn't
Tara
08:31
Dave, what if I were to tell you that as we're recording this yesterday, there was a story on Wired.
Dave
08:35
Yeah.
Guest
08:37
Yeah
Tara
08:37
I got my Muse AI agent to sext me, and Meta says that's totally fine.
Dave
08:42
Hmm.
Sarah
08:42
Yeah
Dave
08:43
I doubt it.
Tara
08:43
What do you mean it's true?
Dave
08:45
No, no, no. I just mean I really doubt that is the true company line on that because that's just bad bad optics for them. I would say keep keep tabs on that in the coming days.
Guest
08:54
I mean, it's bad optics, but it's such good money.
Dave
08:58
Yeah, yeah.
Guest
08:59
And it seems like when they're forced to choose between those two things The money usually wins.
Dave
09:04
Yeah, I agree, I just
Guest
09:05
Because when you have that much money, you can buy the optics. Just look at the design of Muse. How could it ever sex? It's so cute, Dave.
Tara
09:13
It is so cute, unfortunately.
Guest
09:15
Unfortunately
Dave
09:16
Okay, I was thinking like they're gonna get so much brad
Sarah
09:16
Yeah
Guest
09:16
it is.
Dave
09:18
bad press that it would affect their bottom line, but I take your point. Yeah.
Guest
09:22
Mm-hmm. I'd love for that to be true though.
Dave
09:24
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
09:24
Yeah.
Dave
09:24
Yeah. Giving him too much credit, perhaps.
Tara
09:28
The series-wide stakes in The Good Wife and the The Good Fight, which Cupertino is most similar to in The King's Over, they typically revolved around Illinois state politics. Should there have been an intermediate step between that and scofflaw tech companies or are we fine with this escalation? Margaret?
Guest
09:45
I don't know that there should have been. I don't know that there needed to be
Tara
09:48
Mm-hmm.
Guest
09:49
But I love the Illinois politics stuff. I love the collision of things in the good way. And I would love for there to be again like that like a B plot world. Here, a little that's a little bit easier to reach. However, again, I trust the kings. Which is such a boring thing to say, but like I gotta tell you guys I was up at like five this morning to get on a plane flying with two children. I've been away at my mean father-in-law's house all weekend. This was not a good weekend for me to be here
Tara
10:18
Mm-hmm.
Guest
10:19
This is a bad weekend. And I couldn't resist it because I was like, oh, but it's the New King's show.
Dave
10:23
Yeah.
Sarah
10:24
Mm-hmm
Guest
10:25
I have to do it.
Dave
10:26
What you're talking about as like something happening on another level, once you get further into the series, there is somebody who comes into the picture that seems like they're going to be sort of a high-level agent of chaos, sort of in the tech
Guest
10:41
Yeah
Dave
10:42
meets real housewives sort of universe.
Tara
10:45
Yes, yes, yes.
Guest
10:45
Let's be real, I'm thinking it through and it's like, what do I actually need?
Dave
10:45
Yeah.
Guest
10:48
I just need there to be a plausible reason for Alan Cummings, Eli Gold to show up on this show.
Tara
10:53
Sure, sure.
Sarah
10:54
Mm-hmm.
Guest
10:55
Regularly.
Tara
10:56
Mm-hmm.
Guest
10:56
Of course you could be doing PR for Daisy AI.
Dave
10:59
Yeah.
Sarah
10:59
Or Marissa, although we basically have Marissa
Guest
11:01
Oh.
Dave
11:02
Yep.
Sarah
11:02
Gold in uh
Guest
11:03
We do.
Sarah
11:04
yes, in Ellis Diller form. I f think that it will be pretty easy to loop state and federal politics into the storylines here
Tara
11:14
Yeah.
Sarah
11:15
because of, you know, stories about lack of oversight and what if quote character decides to hack the football. And, you know, there is an episode coming where a character says basically that they don't think of these companies as companies, but countries, so I think it's probably a pretty easy jumping off point to those kinds of not even B plots, but sort of like I don't think it's just going to be the one note
Guest
11:42
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
11:42
and the the one pitch
Dave
11:44
Yeah, the spheres of
Guest
11:45
Yeah.
Dave
11:45
influence.
Tara
11:46
Yeah.
Dave
11:46
Yeah.
Guest
11:46
You guys are making me feel weirdly good about the way
Dave
11:46
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
11:47
Yeah.
Guest
11:49
um big tech controls all aspects of modern life. You know, you're right.
Sarah
11:53
Mm-hmm.
Guest
11:54
For for the Kings, that really gives them such a broad canvas.
Tara
11:55
Mm-hmm.
Guest
11:57
And I'm I was underestimating that.
Tara
11:58
Yeah.
Sarah
11:59
Mm-hmm. Yeah, it's like Black Mirror, but you know, network and kinglike.
Guest
12:02
But not bad.
Tara
12:04
Mike Coulter is someone I don't think has shown us a giant dramatic range over the year. How do we think he's doing as Michael? Dave, why don't you go first?
Dave
12:12
He's fine. He just has to be confident and savvy at times and has to make mistakes some other times. Like I just not a large lift. And he's a large mech guy, so he can handle it. He's like he's a salve for all the tech bros, right?
Tara
12:27
Mm-hmm.
Dave
12:27
In this show, he is the closest thing so far. We have to an honest guy. I mean, the female lead is much more down to earth. He's a conservative Midwestern and they play off each other really well. And I don't think We need a ton from him
Tara
12:43
Mm-hmm.
Dave
12:43
to make it work, and that's great
Tara
12:45
Yeah
Dave
12:46
because I think shows like this Sort of like Law and Order, where you want just a little bit of their personal lives, but not too much. You want the rest of the show to be the focus.
Guest
12:55
Yeah.
Tara
12:56
Yes.
Dave
12:57
And I think that's what they're doing. And I think that's what he's doing.
Tara
13:00
Yeah
Dave
13:00
So good. Yeah. Good.
Tara
13:01
It's hard to tell in the early going because he does have a father who's like a Johnny Cochran type, like a celebrity lawyer
Dave
13:07
Mm-hmm.
Tara
13:08
who Michael is trying to get out from under his shadow.
Dave
13:11
By the way, played by Terminator 2's Joe Martin.
Tara
13:14
Played by Joe Morton, which I feel like
Sarah
13:15
No.
Tara
13:17
this is a little unfair to Coulter, because I also think he's fine and he's good in the part, but like he's he is not a
Sarah
13:17
Sure.
Tara
13:24
Charisma match for Joe Morton, in my view. Sarah, what did you think of the two of them?
Sarah
13:29
Yeah, I think this needs to be just a just a pinch of this story and of this emotion underpinning things. Like now that you've suggested it, I don't think we need flashbacks. Just stick with what you do well, stay in the present, and don't necessarily give these two a buffet of scenery and see who's gonna make short work of it first, cause my
Tara
13:53
Yeah.
Sarah
13:54
culture is gonna be overmatched, I agree. I I hope I'm wrong, but d yeah, don't go there.
Tara
14:00
Mm-hmm.
Dave
14:01
Yeah, but I think like the stuff he has to play off. Like there is a lot of farcical elements to the first few episodes that that I forgot that they engage in. Like there's this whole conceit that they got this office on the cheap because you know somebody knows a guy who knows a guy, but it's only half done, only the reception's done, so they have to sort of fake the rest of The office with a lot of people just walking around saying rhubarb, rhubarb, a speaker with typing noises in the background, all that sort of stuff.
Tara
14:26
Yep.
Guest
14:27
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
14:29
It's really good.
Dave
14:30
And he's good at that. Like he's good at those moments where he has to pretend, Oh yeah, it's all going swimmingly.
Guest
14:36
Mm-hmm.
Dave
14:36
I think he's fine here. I think he he fits the bill.
Guest
14:38
He's a limited performer, but I think he's well suited to the part that he's being asked to play here. where they are not asking him to do anything he's not excellent at. I trust them to sort of keep going with that. Because I feel like they've had other limited performers in their roster
Tara
14:55
Yes.
Guest
14:55
who have been deployed with similar savvy.
Tara
14:59
Yes
Guest
14:59
And so I'm I'm optimistic.
Sarah
14:59
Uh-huh.
Guest
15:01
And similarly, you know, he worked on evil, the parts of it that weren't too scary for me to watch.
Tara
15:05
Mm-hmm. Again, the show, not the concept. Olivia, I think, is probably gonna be a typical wish fulfillment TV Christian conservative in that she loves the Lord and has no related political beliefs that we ever hear about, probably. In the classic West Wing mold. But Sarah, I uh blew your mind yesterday by reminding you that you have seen this lady before.
Sarah
15:28
Oh my gosh, yes. She was in the film in The Chair, the the reality show The Chair.
Tara
15:35
I'm stars
Sarah
15:36
Much beloved by me, but not in the um horrific Shane movie. She was in the nice Anna movie. And she was good. And once you pointed it out to me, it was like, oh, of course, that's obviously her. But I think I had gigged her, and this is where my head is. As uh and I was the only one who watched Dirty John 2 the Betty Broader Rickening, but she played Linda Colkonaugh in that. And uh she was very good in a sort of limited role and it's it's good to see that she got this big network showcase from people who really know how to make network shows that push it. So
Tara
16:15
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
16:16
good for her.
Guest
16:17
They were like, yep, we did all the setup in the first episode and now we're mostly just going right into the procedural beat.
Sarah
16:23
Mm-hmm.
Guest
16:23
I was like, oh thank God
Sarah
16:24
Yep
Guest
16:24
Because the first episode is very, very, very piloty. And like it's like setting all the things up, doing all the stuff, exposition dumping. Although again, because it's the kings, all of that's being done with more a lawn, both verbal and visual than you would normally see.
Sarah
16:37
No
Guest
16:38
And in the second one they're jumping straight into things, which I really appreciate.
Sarah
16:39
,
Guest
16:41
I am very excited it sounds like the future episodes continue to build And that's great. And even in the first episode you get those like bits of Kinsey and whimsy. Like we talked about the office that is being built piecemeal. Love it. Live it. Can't wait to keep watching it. My other favorite thing is the way that like every minor character who encounters Mike Coulter uh wants to tell him about their um their new their their startup
Tara
17:05
Yeah, yeah.
Guest
17:05
and and get him in as an investor.
Sarah
17:06
Mm-hmm.
Guest
17:08
And I just think that Lego that's a bit with legs. I'm excited to see that continue to play out.
Sarah
17:12
Mm-hmm. The judge ship, hey, it's that guy, work fair program.
Guest
17:17
Yeah.
Dave
17:17
Yeah.
Sarah
17:18
Always a pleasure.
Guest
17:18
Yeah.
Tara
17:19
Mm-hmm.
Guest
17:20
Just great to see so many of our um fine Broadway actors being given
Sarah
17:24
Mm-hmm.
Guest
17:24
paying work between their stage games. It's just always a thrill. I hope they find Laura Binanti apart here. I just the list the list goes on and on, and I don't need to give it to the Kings because their list is better than mine.
Clips
17:40
Got a lot of shows. It's a great time for shows.
Dave
17:44
Alright, it is time to go around the dial first up Tara. Tara we got
Tara
17:48
Well, I watched below. When Calvin Penny was a kid, the government of Newfoundland resettled him and his family to a more populous part of the province. with disastrous consequences possibly caused by an ocean cryptid. Forty years later, and now played by Josh Hartnett, Calvin is collecting Collecting and selling icebergs to a local vodka distillery, hatching entrepreneurial plans he can't get his far-flung kids to return from Montreal and Alberta to join him on. And resisting talk of uh another resettlement. When one of the icebergs he grabs turns out to be not pure ice, but essentially a giant sea bugger, his Scientist friend Fonda Howander I missed that that was her name until I looked it up on IMDb, played by Mackenzie Davis. Catastrophe has befallen another local, partly because of his own recklessness, but also partly because of a Kraken. Unclear. I admire the decision to set a show in New Newfoundland, a province I think most Americans couldn't find on a map and before Adam Grosswirth goes to the Discord to say it, Yes I know about Come From Away. And even many Canadians often forget about Newfoundland as well But it is loaded with rugged natural beauty they are actually shooting there. It has a very distinctive accent that Josh Hartnett seems to have worked very hard to learn, although I would need an actual native to comment on how close he got. I did spend most of the first episode thinking it seemed like sci-fi channel fair, meaning the mix of earnest human drama and goosy kills was wildly out of whack. for budgetary reasons, but that episode did end on a satisfyingly gross note. So I will watch at least one more to see if it picks up. Stand by to find out. Dave, you watched this as well. What did you think of blue?
Dave
19:27
It moved along, but it needed something halfway through the first episode.
Tara
19:31
Yeah.
Dave
19:31
You know, those first moments where you see the waves as Bruce the Shark is going through the ocean, but you actually don't know like it's we're still in that for so much of the first episode
Tara
19:40
Yeah.
Dave
19:41
and really could have just sped that along.
Tara
19:43
Mm-hmm.
Dave
19:44
But otherwise, yeah, the ending was good, so we'll give it another episode and see where it takes us.
Tara
19:48
Yeah, there's only six, so it's not a
Dave
19:50
Mm-hmm.
Tara
19:51
it's not a huge commitment to uh
Dave
19:52
Yep.
Tara
19:53
continue checking it out.
Dave
19:54
Mm-hmm.
Tara
19:55
For my plug, I wrote a post about the errand sorconisms of the social reckoning, giving of course, in terms of Sorkinism, credit to Kevin T. Porter and his Sorkinisms series of Supercuts. Adding to the œuvres, so it's not up yet, but I will link my contributor page at GQ in the show notes and you can uh you know keep refreshing that until it shows up.
Dave
20:20
There's so many people right now just at their computer foregoing dinner. Yeah. All right, Margaret, what have you been watching lately? People need to know about.
Guest
20:29
So what I've been watching lately is I have been continuing my growth into my final form, which is like I've become the Bravo girly I was always meant to be. Like this is this is one of the many things I knew was like lying latent inside of me, and I just needed the right person to unlock it. It turns out my boyfriend is a big Bravo girly. And When the giant scandal went down on Summer House, it happened with like exactly enough time that if we started watching Summerhouse, we could probably like get current by the time the finales were airing. So that is what we did. And we have since moved on to Southern Charm. And guys, I don't know if you've watched that show, but those people are terrible.
Tara
21:11
Oh, you don't say
Sarah
21:12
What?
Guest
21:13
They are very bad people, but I'm very pleased to be really read in on them
Sarah
21:16
Huh
Guest
21:18
because Craig from Southern Charm just got cast on the upcoming season of celebrity US traders. I now am informed enough to be able to anticipate exactly what a shit show that's going to be. And I really can't wait. The other thing that I would tell you is that if you're wondering, is it triggering to watch seasons of television set both during the pandemic and during woke one, particularly in Charleston, South Carolina. I'm gonna tell you, yeah
Tara
21:49
Yeah, yeah.
Guest
21:49
It really
Dave
21:50
Yeah.
Guest
21:50
is. It is wild.
Sarah
21:51
Yeah
Guest
21:52
It is wild to see how hard they listened and learned and then how quickly they stopped.
Sarah
21:59
Yeah
Guest
22:00
How how rapidly they reverted to finding being called racist substantially worse than any amount of racist behavior one could perpetrate.
Tara
22:09
Yeah.
Guest
22:10
So it is a wild ride and I'm enjoying it. And if you guys want to weigh in on uh where our Bravo journey should take us next, I would be interested in what the extra hot great community has to say.
Tara
22:21
Oh, they will tell you.
Guest
22:22
That said, we are going to be pausing on that shortly because some really important things are about to drop on Netflix in this week as we tape. Namely, I think tomorrow, Love is Blind Boston is coming to uh the channel, and as a Bostonian, I am incredibly invested in this.
Tara
22:39
Of course
Guest
22:40
As a Bostonian and a and a and a blind lover.
Dave
22:44
What is going to be the difference between Love is Blind and Love is Blind Boston. What's Boston gonna bring to the mix?
Tara
22:51
Great question.
Dave
22:51
What Bostonian attribute can we look forward to?
Tara
22:54
Here's what I can tell you from watching many seasons of Married at First Sight and many seasons of Love as First. Blind. Everyone in the first episode is gonna be like, it's terrible to date here. Like, your town is not different than any other town.
Guest
23:03
Yeah.
Tara
23:05
Boston, you're the same as Wilmington, Delaware.
Dave
23:07
Yeah
Tara
23:07
Anyway, go on, Margaret.
Guest
23:09
So I will say, speaking of someone who when Married at First Sight was filming in Boston, I was dating two guys and each of them separately got approached by producers to appear on Married at First Sight.
Tara
23:21
Love this part of your lore, by the way. Go on.
Guest
23:24
A a baby blue baby blue three piece vintage suit in a Starbucks on a on a Tuesday at like ten in the morning
Sarah
23:31

Tara

Uh-huh.
Guest
23:31
and the other
Sarah

Sarah
23:42
Oh
Tara
23:45
Great
Guest
23:48
the the deranged grad student energy that that is my particular kryptonite in Boston.
Dave
23:54
Margaret, you could be describing the next season of American horror story, frankly.
Guest
23:58
Uh Dave, trust me, as someone who lived my dating life, I'm well aware.
Sarah
24:03
Yeah.
Guest
24:05
Um, so I'm very excited to see him. I feel like the vast majority of these people will not be from Boston proper.
Tara
24:11
Yeah
Guest
24:12
So I'm excited to see which
Dave
24:12
Yeah
Guest
24:14
suburbs or outlying areas they're from. I feel like we're gonna get a lot of South Shore people I'm curious if they were able to get anybody with a Boston accent, you know, because that's increasingly rare. Like that's not a that's not an everyday thing. It's like if you were doing Love is Blind New York, you wouldn't have people being like, yay, I'm walking here unless you were really specifically casting for it.
Tara
24:34
Right.
Guest
24:34
So I think they've got to have that, but I don't know exactly where it's coming from. And I am ex Excited by the fact that I know from friend of the show, Kathryn Van Arendonk, that the Boston Knights Spot Capo makes an appearance on here, which is important because that was also a focal point of a lot of drama. Real Housewives of Rhode Island.
Tara
24:56
Whoa, okay.
Guest
24:57
And so from what I'm seeing there could be a crossover. There won't be, but I can imagine there could be. Like maybe the people are gonna get into a fight while the weather girl from Real Housewives of Rhode Island's husband performs his Frank Sinatra impersonation shtick.
Dave
25:14
Wow.
Guest
25:14
And like I just think that would be important
Dave
25:16
Can we work uh Affleck and Damon into this somehow? Really just close the loop on Boston?
Guest
25:22
If they can get Affleck and Damon to uh to come on to host the finale or make an appearance Netflix has a lot more money than I would have thought, and I look forward to seeing the uh slate of Ben Affleck directed films
Dave
25:36
Yeah.
Guest
25:36
they will also be airing following.
Dave
25:39
I gather they don't ever leave the studio for a Love is Blind because I know they're like in little fly pods and they get turned into human flies and all that kind of stuff. But if they did, I think Affleck and Damon are cameoing as the historical tours of whatever, Freedom Trail and that kind of stuff.
Guest
25:56
No, they they do go out of the pods.
Tara
25:58
They do.
Dave
25:58
Oh, okay.
Guest
25:58
They're in the pods for a little while. There's pod time. Then they send them to like
Dave
26:01
Okay.
Guest
26:02
Cancun.
Dave
26:02
Mm-hmm.
Guest
26:03
Where they all fight with each other
Tara
26:05
Mm-hmm.
Guest
26:05
and then they put them in Boston in like a random apartment building where they all live together with their exes. Um, because it's about love, Dave. Uh it's about fostering love.
Dave
26:15
Yeah.
Guest
26:15
Yeah.
Sarah
26:15
There's just gonna be a lot of shiplap and lobster decor
Guest
26:20
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
26:21
in the early going
Guest
26:21
Yes, for sure.
Sarah
26:22
is my prediction.
Guest
26:23
There there really will be, and uh I can't wait to see it And then I guess just to give a completely different flavor to my life, another media connected friend who will remain unnamed for obvious reasons has screeners for Netflix's upcoming Pride and Prejudice.
Tara
26:38
Oh
Guest
26:39
And I have been invited over to her place to watch them.
Tara
26:42
exciting
Guest
26:42
And I am outrageously excited because I am deep in my Austin girly shit. And if programming related to that has any interest to you, you should definitely go to my website, mhwillison.com, and sign up for my newsletter because if this adaptation is good The chances that I'm going to do some kind of programming related to it is high. And given that it is written by Dolly Alderton, who's a very experienced and funny TV writer, I'm optimistic for where it goes. So if that feels like something you would really want to get into the weeds with someone about, I'm your girl and that's my sight. So come and find me.
Tara
27:20
I'm just telling Dave because I know hits from the part of the internet he doesn't read. River Cartwright from Slow Horses plays Mr. Darcy
Dave
27:27
Yeah, all right, I can
Tara
27:27
in this one.
Guest
27:29
Oh, that's some also importantly, Mr.
Dave
27:29
see that
Guest
27:31
Sir Sharonin, right?
Tara
27:32
Yes.
Guest
27:33
Ugh. I've just started watching Slow Horses because I'm very behind the times. And so I'm also very excited to hear that.
Tara
27:40
Yeah.
Guest
27:41
He doesn't photograph well, but he's very attractive in motion.
Tara
27:44
Yeah. Well, Catherine, I believe, wrote a post saying, you are not
Sarah
27:46
Yeah.
Tara
27:50
ri you know, whatever his actual name is, Jack Loden, you are not a Darcy, you are a Bingley. So I guess we'll all find out if she was right.
Guest
27:57
I do think there's something in that. Yeah, I'm excited to see.
Dave
28:04
All right, Sarah D. Bunting, what do you got?
Sarah
28:07
I've got Killberry Print. This is the documentary executive produced by Rachel Maddow and like a lot of other people, but she's the name that gets mentioned in the coverage, and that's uh where a lot of people stop listening to the coverage. This is about the mortal struggle between a rural Oklahoma County's newspaper, the Family Business McCurtain County Gazette, and that county's seemingly corrupt and or inept Sheriff's Department. I dimly remembered this story blowing up when it first did a few years ago. It blew up as big as it did, I think, because it was speaking to profound anxiety on the part of journalists and of Those of us civilians who still want to consider newspapers a public trust, about the death of print, the throttling of local journalism by national syndicates, and AI and the willingness and usual ability of law enforcement to disappear reporting on their own malfeasance. None of these anxieties has receded even a jot in the months and years since that scandal broke. But does that mean Kilberry Print is per se worth watching? Or is it an 86 minute exercise in congratulating itself and its audience on its right thinking about these issues I don't think it's that second thing. Or at least it's not only or off-puttingly that second thing. It does have a side So to say, it wants the viewer to be on it, and it does overstep at least once in that regard, but I've always had an issue with reviews of documentaries. that confuse the words documentary and transcript and expect perfect objectivity to accord with compelling narrative or expect perfect objectivity at all. This is not a perfect documentary or an objective one, but it is under 90 minutes. It has a lot of soothing print news process up top that I enjoyed, but I'm also the one who practically registered all the presidents men as an emotional support animal during the pandemic, so that's just me. And it is telling a particular story in a way that underlines that it's universal here in the twenty twenties, that print is still really struggling. that law enforcement will go to almost any lengths to cover up perceived malfeasance, instead of just being less shitty and saying sorry, that there's a too high price to pay for standing your ground as a reporter sometimes, etcetera, and so on. It is meta commentary, it is not especially cheery, but I do recommend it. And I reviewed it for best evidence I will be talking about it more in depth with my esteemed colleagues Mari and Sarah at the Crime Scene Podcast. Links to both of those are in the show notes.
Tara
30:49
Dave, before you get into yours, I just want to correct myself. Catherine didn't write the piece about why Jack Loden is Darcy. It was Jackson McHenry, and we'll link it in the show notes.
Dave
30:57
Kilberry Print, Paul Hollywood Nigella
Sarah
31:01
Mm-hmm.
Dave

this last episode. Look, I 'm not gonna go into a long tirade, but if you have a segment called the Technical where the point of the technical is to see how well you compare to both the source technical and then everybody else's in order to judge them. You can't just change it so the technical is make whatever you want with a bowl of ingredients. That's not the way it works. You can do that separately. But you can't replace the technical with that shit. Apples to apples, please, not apples to oranges.
Tara
31:43
Yes, that's the whole point of the technical.
Dave
31:45
Anyways, all right, here's what's coming up on Friday on Extra Extra Hawk Great. We're gonna be talking about season two of the lowdown as available to club members if you're not. You can go to extrahotgreat. com/slash club. You can join on Patreon and get the whole suite of perks. Or if you prefer Apple Podcasts, you can join there, but only the audio perks there. And then come back here one week's time, EHGprime We're going to be talking about Crystal Lake, the Friday the 13th prequel series, reimagining with Mr. Dan Rogee. It is time for the extra Hunter Cannon presenting this week as Margaret.
Guest
32:29
This is such an honor and also a terror. I'm a longtime listener. And this is my first time assembling a submission myself. And so I gave myself an easy pitch because there's only one good wife episode in the canon currently, a strong one, but it was not favorite episode that I had in mind and I was like, okay, if they have not done the thicky trick episode, as I think of it, somebody's gotta pitch it and that person should clearly be me. So I am bringing to the canon. The good wife, season five, episode eleven, Goliath and David The reason I felt this episode to be a strong contender for the canon is because I feel it is a stellar example Of what the good wife does best on just like an average week, which is that it is a perfect legal procedural that is just about 25% better than you imagine it would be or than it ever needs to be I'm just gonna go through all the things it does that are sort of standard legal procedural things that they just do better than everyone else. So number one, they rip from the headlines better. When you are re-watching this show, which I did a couple of years ago, you get to go down this rabbit hole of old scandals that you had completely forgotten existed. For example, listeners, you're a Cluden bunch, you're a culturally engaged crew. Do you remember that in around 2013 there was a big fuss? Because original songwriters were suing Glee for stealing covers of their songs. For example, Jonathan Colton covering Baby Got Back, stolen by Glee. We can hear a little bit of Baby Got Back, the original.

I like big buttons and I cannot lie. You other brothers can't deny.

Now let's hear Jonathan's. That's clip two
Clips

When a girl walks through with a nitty-bitty wrist and a round thing in your face.
Guest
34:24
And let's hear clip three, which is Glee's version, presented as though it is an original arrangement
Dave
34:33
Yeah, I think that's a good idea.
Guest
34:34
And what they did is they just took a completely unique arrangement Jonathan Colton had created for this rap song. And wholesale recreated it. And because copyright works the way copyright works, which is mostly in favor of rich people, there was no problem with it and nothing happened to Glee because of it. Except the kings were on it. The Kings were on it and they said this is a weird legal situation that we are gonna rip from the headlines and turn into an episode starring Matthew Lillard. Where, surprise The band at Alicia and Carrie's New Law Firm's Christmas party has a legal complaint, and would you know it? They have taken a song by Rebel Kane called Ficky Trick, a clip of which you can hear here.

So everything about this delights me. I love the nicheness of what they've decided to focus on I love the exactness that they have brought to the task ahead of them. I love the pitch perfect satire. Because this is an audio rather than a visual podcast. You cannot see the clips of the drama camp kids gleeing it up as they sing this song, but you'll watch it and you'll be like, wow, remember when this show was like beloved and critically acclaimed? Isn't it wild that that was the case This is something the Good Wife consistently does well and does great here, which is that when they decide to satirize something, like they nail it, for example, this incredible answer they give to the character I Deem Fryand Furfee for the deep emotional meaning intended by this soft rock cover of Thicky Trick.
Clips
36:44
You created the show Drama Camp, so this scene mattered to you. Very much. Like many young men trying to find their identity, I was bullied as a kid. So I wanted to create a show that had kids moving beyond the hate. And you I mean That's why you covered uh Dickie Trick this way. Mm-hmm. Yes. I wanted to show how two cultures needed each other.
Guest
37:12
So just yeah, how two cultures needed each other. It's just so exactly the way people talked about glee when it was on the air that it really again filled me with glee. As someone who've hated that show from the start. That is one thing that they do well that I feel we should all be celebrating. They rip from the headlines better than everyone else. Two, they do guest stars better than everybody else. else. And for this, I just want to point to the stellar performance from Matthew Lillard as clueless musician Roby Canton. This particular scene really, I feel, demonstrates his what he's bringing to the role.
Clips

No, the question, Your Honor, is one of theft. All derivatives. There's no theft here Again, Mrs. Floric is trying to. If it was no theft, then why is the plaintiff trying to change the subject? It's not changing the subject to insist on a derivative copyright. Can I get a new chair? Mine squeaks. Another chair for Mr. Carrington
Guest
38:07
He has so many little lines like that throughout the episode, and his delivery on all of them is absolutely perfect. And this is one thing that I feel the Kings consistently do well is they do create these minor characters that give guest actors a real opportunity to be stars and exist in such a way that when they are brought back later You're like, oh my god, it's Roby. He's back. He comes back on the good fight. Also a great episode. So really strong work from him, really strong work writing those characters. And they also know how to use a guest star for a pure punchline In this episode, Eli is losing his mind because the hot ethics commissioner who has been hired to uh commission the ethics of Alicia's unethical husband, Peter, is three and a half months pregnant with a baby named Peter after her after the father, who is quote unquote a private citizen she won't identify This leads Eli to hire Calinda to find out who the father is, and they do a crazy amount of sleuthing, and they come up with a really plausible answer, and it's incorrect. And at the very end of the episode, we get a throwaway bit where one, we find out the real scandal that Peter is going to be indicted for is nothing to do with impregnating his ethics commissioner. and everything to do with the fact that maybe he stole the election he just won for governor. And then two, we get to meet the actual father of Marilyn's baby. And she says, I've talked to the father, he's willing to come, and then Peter Bogdanovich comes out. He says Hi, Peter Bogdanovich.
Dave
39:35
It was so good. I forgot about that
Guest
39:37
So good.
Dave

watch again.
Guest
39:39
And it's just one of those things where it's like I had also completely forgotten about this part.
Sarah
39:40
Don't be tail.
Guest
39:44
And it showed up and I was like, oh my god, right. This is what makes the king so inspired because they would think, who's the funniest Peter who could possibly be the father of Marilyn's baby? And they would go out and they would hire Peter Bogdanovich to show up for one line. It would be exactly the right line. The next thing they do better than anybody else is romantic laced infighting. So for that, we have the Starcross lovers of the first half of the series, Alicia and Will, who are at this point greatly at odds with one another. Will has weasled his way into being co-counsel, opposing Alicia in this case of Goliath versus David, and he is using every trick he knows to stumble her.

40:43
So you decided to change? Yep. Into what I wore the night you banged me the first time. It's pretty low of you. I know. I wasn't so discriminating back then.
Guest
40:57
Just the delivery of all of that, the vibes we're getting from it, the way the two of them really get off on sort of hating each other but also definitely wanting to fuck each other really works for me and it was such a strong part of the show. I feel like so many long running shows try to get this kind of will they won't they energy in there and don't do it as well And then finally, the thing that I would want to celebrate them for is just being brave enough to get into the really, really weedy legal weeds and like know they have the ability to help us follow them there. So this song, it you get all the different twists that one would expect, form-wise, from a legal procedural. But the twists are things like Oh, they thought they had the derivative copyright rights, which would give them the right to to make changes to the song that would then be copyright protected, but actually they just got a different license. Because their doofus manager, who's also the owner of a bowling alley, just was like, whatever. And they'll bring you through that kind of stuff. And they know how to explain it well. They know to have Matthew Lillard there to play an idiot, but it doesn't feel like you're being talked down to as it might in a Sorkin show. They know to have bickering musicologists to spice things up.

Just throwing it in there. And in the end, they also know exactly how to land it. Which is Jonathan Coolden proved this against them because as somebody who used to have to deal with copyright law professionally Copyright law is really, really, really fungible, and therefore it is always going to go to the person with the most money, unless you find evidence of real theft.

I don't get it. But it's balls. Balls. Ball it's bow bowling. It's like, oh my god, it's bowling balls. We recorded it at Murray's work. And before they could re-record the tracks, DramaCamp's engineers just recycled yours. I mean, I don't care what anyone says. That's theft. That's like breaking into my house and stealing my stuff kind of theft.
Guest
43:04
And with this Triumphantly, the boys from the band are able to get a settlement out of the big bad drama club TV Corporation, and everyone gets to go home happy, except Eli, who has a much bigger problem facing him next week And that is why I felt this episode of the good wife was worthy of the canon. Thank you for listening to my presentation.
Tara
43:26
Thank you, Margaret. Sarah, why don't you start?
Sarah
43:29
Should it please the court? Thank you so much for bringing this into this episode. One of my criteria for whether an episode is canon worthy is do I want to keep going afterward uh at the end of it, do I want to just like loop into episode twelve of this season and fucking eh right, I did These are such good points. I love that framework that you used for this presentation because they really do do like 25 to 40 percent more than you have any reasonable right to expect from a network procedural, especially on this network, which is like please pipe the programming into my 10 year
Guest

I mean, you have Lillard, you have Bogdanovich, you have his fellow Sopranos castmate, Uncle June, as the judge, who at one point is like, I have no idea what either of you is doing, but let's shut up, which Occasionally, Johnny Sack from The Sopranos still gets a line like that on Law and Order SVU, and it's always a delight every time. My canon presentations often focus on like why this is both typical of this show and better than like among the best of this show. I think your presentation managed to highlight both at the same time that there's a bunch of good comeback lines that I think I thought that will, spoiler, was already dead by this point in the show.
Guest
45:00
Oh
Sarah
45:01
So when he appeared, I was like, oh. Word. I've always had a crush on this actor.
Guest
45:07
same
Sarah
45:08
His game recognizing game smirk after she drops that line on him and then just like walks off and she's like, oh I wasn't so discriminating back then. And he's like, I hate you. I would tear that outfit off you with my teeth right now.
Guest
45:23
Yeah, yeah.
Sarah
45:23
Good for you. Like, I admit defeat in this in this round, but also that he loves it. He loves hating her.
Guest
45:31
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
45:31
This is the Juliana Margalise has decent wigs that they're not trying to do weird shit with bangs era.
Guest
45:37
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
45:38
That's a plus.
Guest
45:38
Mm-hmm. Big
Sarah
45:40
in its favor, but I think that your presentation is so well thought out and reasoned that they really do color
Guest
45:40
plus
Sarah
45:47
to the edges of what they're satirizing. They don't half ass any of the sort of like changes to like the Greeking or Gleaking, I guess in this case, of of franchise names and stuff like that. Like Chum Hum was like so insane, but also like really far off from the original.
Guest
46:03
Yeah
Sarah
46:06
Uh and they find a way with the sort of legal jazz, as uh as Roby puts it reparte. It's not necessarily realistic, but it is how a civilian can follow them into the weeds that you mentioned and feel like We're all learning something, but it's not Sorkiny and women aren't always being explained to.
Dave
46:33
Yeah, the progression of the case as they figure out all the things they can't do with the tricky
Guest
46:33
Yes.
Dave
46:38
trick song is unrealistic from a lawyering point of view. Like they would have thought out those steps. before they got to court.
Sarah
46:44
Mm-hmm
Dave
46:45
But as a viewer, just like the back and forth tennis match of finding the next thing to gotcha on is very entertaining
Tara
46:51
Yeah.
Dave
46:52
if it's not realistic.
Tara
46:53
Yes.
Sarah
46:54
Mm-hmm. And then you have fucking Salieri as
Dave
46:57
Yeah, that's right.
Sarah
46:57
as basically the plaintiff
Guest
46:58
Right. F. Marie Abraham
Sarah
46:59
here. So
Guest
47:00
really bringing it
Sarah
47:01
Mm-hmm.
Dave
47:01
Yeah.
Sarah
47:02
So yeah, fantastic to revisit this. I've been meaning to do a rewatch of the entire franchise from Jump for a while, and this is my excuse. Thank you very much, Margaret H. Who would like to go next
Tara
47:14
I'll go next. This really took me back to a time and culture when Songs could be best selling on iTunes, and
Sarah
47:22
Mm-hmm. Hi, dudes!
Tara
47:23
that was something people would want to get a piece of
Sarah
47:24
I also had that note. I know
Tara
47:27
When I saw Kevin Cahun as the female impersonator in the Vegas season of Glow, I thought he was brand new to me, and then so seeing him again, it was like, oh right! He was Schmayan Schmurfee in this episode. doing this weird voice.
Guest
47:44
Mm-hmm.
Tara
47:44
Yeah, I don't have a ton to add. This is great. I regret that their association with Jonathan Colton through this led to all of the schoolhouse rock interstitials on the good fight that I never liked.
Guest
47:56
I know.
Sarah
47:58
Yeah, well, yeah
Tara
47:58
But you know, I don't wish him ill personally. Uh if it had I just wish it had stopped here
Dave
48:02
Oh. So big of you
Tara
48:05
Well, I'm just saying, I'm not like mad at him as a person. I just think th those were weak.
Dave
48:09
Ninjas, go forth, do my bidding, get
Tara
48:11
Yeah. Uh
Dave
48:12
him
Tara
48:13
but All of this uh I and I also commend your decision to sort of um gloss over the Jason O'Mara parts of the episode, which were the most boring parts.
Guest
48:21
Uh they really were.
Tara
48:24
I seeing Kalinda and Eli in a scene made me think about all of the celebrities that are in this current season of celebrity traders in the UK that are actual big stars and thinking, goddamn, that poker face of hers, I want to see Archie Punjabi on a season that I might actually watch.
Guest
48:40
Oh, for real.
Sarah
48:41
Mm-hmm.
Tara
48:42
There's just so much to like, and you laid out an excellent case. I can't I cannot improve on it. Dave.
Dave
48:47
Yeah, I agree one hundred percent. Just two things absolutely Pride of ownership, you're talking about their elevated take on all the legal stuff that's happening, and you're absolutely right. It's always that one-fifth, one quarter better than the other stuff you're watching on TV, and it makes A huge difference to the watchability of these shows. It's much more popcorn y than you would get on like
Guest
49:09
Really, really
Sarah
49:09
Mm-hmm.
Guest
49:10
does
Dave
49:10
Law and Order or something like that. And guest stars, yeah, absolutely. It's always fun. Like when um Uh, Freddie Krueger popped up on uh Cupertino as the judge. I'm like, oh, that's great. What's his name again?
Tara
49:23
Oh, Jackie Earl Haley, yes.
Dave
49:23
Earl.
Tara
49:25
New new Freddie Krueger.
Sarah
49:25
Yeah.
Dave
49:26
New Freddy Kruger, yes.
Tara
49:26
Yes, I forgot about that.
Sarah
49:27
Yeah
Dave
49:28
And then my last thing I want to say because everybody covered everything else. I really enjoyed the phrase Weedy legal weeds, and we can look forward to employing that in the future. Alright, let's make this official. Serity Bunting. What do you say about Goliath and David for the cannon?
Sarah
49:45
Howard, wake up, we're voting, and I'm voting yes.
Tara
49:49
Cutting the clips for this is how I realized that Glee 's ripoff of Jonathan Colton not only like obviously ripped him off, but didn't even change the key, that was astonishing to me. So for that reason alone Plus all the others. Uh it's a yes for me, Dave.
Dave
50:03
Me too. So The Good Wave, Season 5, Episode 11, Goliath and David. You are hereby inducted into the extra hot great cannon.
Clips
50:24
Americans love a winner. Yup and will not tolerate a loser. Nope
Dave
50:29
It's time to discover our winner and loser of the week, Sarah has this week's winner.
Sarah
50:34
I do. It's Nicholas Cage. In the past week he has, number one, hinted that he may star in a future season of True Detective, which, oh, there could be a future season of True Detective. I actually quite liked the last one, and I hope That that is true. And V declined to sign an AI waiver for Prime Video and implied that that working relationship is now at an end, which Yeah, good for you. This is a guy that I have made fun of for being an extreme weirdo many times in uh the last couple of decades, but I've really liked that Spider Noir. I thought he was good in it. I thought he was perfectly cast. And it's nice to know that he's an extreme weirdo with some integrity. So good for all of us.
Dave
51:19
That's what it says on this
Guest
51:20
Yeah
Dave
51:20
missus card.
Sarah
51:21
Mm-hmm, probably.
Guest
51:22
I'm glad he's at this place of his gambling deaths where he can be
Dave
51:25
Yes.
Guest
51:26
where he can be judicious again.
Dave
51:27
Uh I hope you didn't have to sell off too many dinosaur skulls.
Tara
51:31
Yes. I mean, I think he always had taste. It's just like sometimes he turned it off. You know, like adaptation was in the middle of his making a movie a month phase, too.
Guest
51:39
Yeah.
Dave
51:40
Yeah.
Tara
51:40
So
Guest
51:41
Great.
Tara
51:41
anyway
Sarah
51:41
Mm-hmm
Guest
51:42
And again, we spoke about my dating process earlier, so I certainly understand him
Tara
51:48
My loser is once again Kelly Clarkson for a new reason this time. I thought about letting it slide, but I c I just couldn't. This has been one of the biggest celebrity gossip stories since it broke She went into a small independent toy store in Brooklyn called Art of Play. She wanted to buy what they're calling like an a automata, automata, I don't know, a little mechanical
Guest
52:12
Her name is Molly Tara.
Tara
52:14
Thank you. Molly, a bird puppet. She wanted to buy it. They said it was not for sale. She went to Twitter, which likes Strike 2, and decided to yell at this store.
Sarah
52:24
Mm-hmm.
Tara
52:26
to all of her millions of followers. So now people are phoning the store and like being assholes to the people there. Like, s let Kelly Clarkson have your bird. It wasn't for sale So f you know, for first of all making a stink about it and then doubling down after the store had to like make a statement that was like, um, please stop. She didn't So, you know, if you're in Brooklyn and you have a reason to start your holiday shopping, maybe go to Art of Play, give them some business, because they could probably use it thanks to
Guest
52:52
Yeah. Yeah.
Tara
52:55
Kelly fucking Clarkson, who between this and the AI thing last week, like, just get a job. You're you're clearly bored.
Sarah
53:02
Mm-hmm.
Dave
53:02
Well, speaking about making a stink than doubling down, do you know what time it is?
Tara
53:06
It's game done.
Sarah
53:07
Get out.
Dave
53:19
Welcome back everybody. This is the third game time of the season after last week's non-regulation. The scores are Tara One. Sarah One, value guest looking to get on the board today. And today we are playing the host with the most. It comes from Sean, who earns himself a free shirt from our store at thrumethods. com. Sean writes, many television actors have gone on to host game and talk shows, and in today's game time, you'll need to remember who hosts What show? I will give you the show that was hosted by a television actor and the number of episodes that they hosted on. You get three points for guessing outright with only that m amount of information. I can give you a hint. It will be the character's first name from a show they are known for on television. Guess there, two points. If you still don't know it, I can give you that TV show in question. So After that, it's worth one point. But Sean, being the mean man he is, Sarah D. Bunting, has declared only one guess
Guest
54:19
Mm-hmm.
Sarah
54:20
Uh huh.
Dave
54:23
per question.
Tara
54:24
Sean
Guest
54:25
Mm-hmm. Sean
Dave
54:27
Alright, we're not gonna do steel meals today.
Tara
54:27
You monster
Dave
54:29
We're not gonna do gross worth equalizer challenge zones. I can tell you there are 30 questions, but first let's find out our order.
Clips
54:37
We will start with Tara.
Dave
54:38
Alright, we're gonna go Tara, Margaret, and then Sarah. As I said, 30 questions gonna play straight through. Are we ready to play the host with the most?
Tara
54:48
Yes, yep
Sarah
54:48
Yes.
Dave
54:48
All right, Tara, this television actor hosted a television show called Celebrity Beef
Guest
54:49
As ready as I'll ever be

Dave
55:02
They played a character named Frank on a television show.
Tara
55:07
Uh, is this host Joel McHale?

Guest
55:16

55:30
It is also Joe McHale, yes.
Tara
55:31

Guest
55:32
Thank God.
Dave
55:33
Three points.
Tara
55:33
Okay, that's good to know.
Dave
55:34
Sara D.
Guest
55:35
Yeah
Dave
55:35
Bunting, here is your first question. This television actor hosted Crime Scene Kitchen for 30 episodes. Who is that actor?
Sarah
55:45
Is this also Joel McGale?
Dave
55:47
Three points for Sara
Sarah
55:48
Oh
Dave
55:48
D. Bunting back to Tara.
Tara
55:49
Yep.
Dave
55:50
This actor hosted the 1% club for 26 episodes.
Tara
55:54
Oh boy. Well it had two hosts, but I'm gonna assume this is Joel McHale
Dave
55:59
Don't make
Tara
55:59
again.
Dave
56:00
hail hosted more episodes than Pat and all as well. 30, yes. Correct. All right, back to Margaret. Your television show is House of Villains. Somebody hosted this 21 times. What television actor was it?
Guest
56:16
The way Tara 's laughing, I seem like it's Joel McHale again, but I don't wanna guess that. I'm gonna do a h I'll take a hint.
Dave
56:23
This television actor was on a TV show where they played Chef David.
Guest
56:28
I cannot think of any TV shows I've ever watched with a character named Chef David. So I am not going to take the additional hand and I'm just gonna go ahead and get Stul McHale.
Dave
56:37
You are correct, Dom McHale for two points. Back to Sarah.
Guest
56:40
Great, great.
Dave
56:41
The television show is Lego Masters, in which they were on 65 episodes. Who is that television actor who hosted LEGOmasters?
Sarah
56:51
Uh oh my God. Um hint
Dave
56:55
They played Job.
Sarah
56:58
Mm. Hmm. Yes, they did. And that's the only that name is blotting out every other name of anyone who's ever existed, except Will Arnett's. That's the name, right?
Dave
57:09
Ah, you do not follow to my Mikhail Arnett
Guest
57:10
You did it
Dave
57:12
trap. Well done. That is worth two points, of course, from Russ of Development. Tara. This television actor hosted Jeopardy for 184 episodes.
Tara
57:28
My MBalec
Dave
57:29
Is correct. Yes, three points.

Nice, nice pull.
Dave
57:32
To Margaret, this television actor hosted 1,654 episodes of Axis Hollywood.
Guest

Dave
57:44
You are correct. Yes, three point
Guest
57:45
Yay!
Sarah
57:46
Nice
Dave
57:46

Sarah
57:56
How wonderful for them. Hint, please.
Dave

Well, they played Andrew in a TV show. Andrew, scripted TV show. His character was Andrew.
Sarah
58:06
Um, yeah, nope hint
Dave
58:08
They were Andrew on Big Mouth. So they're the host of everybody's live for 12 episodes. They also played Andrew on Big Mouth.
Sarah
58:17
I don't know. I don't know. Joel McGale
Dave
58:23
Nope, anybody
Tara
58:23
Good guess.
Dave
58:24
anybody know it?
Tara
58:25
Yes
Dave
58:26
Yes?
Guest
58:26
Is it Nick Kroll?
Dave
58:27
No? Close though?
Tara
58:28
It's John Molini.
Dave
58:29
John Bullaney, yes, John Mullaney
Guest
58:31
Ah, sure, the other one.
Sarah
58:32
Okay
Guest
58:33
The other one.
Dave
58:33
Tara, this person
Tara
58:34
Yes
Dave
58:36
was part of Star Search for nine episodes. They played first name only Buffy
Tara
58:47
Oh, is this Sarah Michelle Geller?
Dave
58:49
Yeah, she was on the panel or something like that.
Tara
58:51
Okay.
Dave
58:52

Guest
58:57
Okay. Alfonso Rivera.
Dave
58:59
Yes, three points nicely done.
Guest
59:01
Yeah.
Sarah
59:01
Wow.
Guest
59:02
Uh, or as he's done in my household
Dave
59:02
Sarah
Guest
59:04
little baby Alfonso.
Tara
59:06
Sure
Dave
59:07
Kids Baking Championship Sarah 109 episodes hosted by what TV actor?
Sarah
59:15
I don't know. Hint
Dave
59:16
They played a character named Barbara
Sarah
59:22
Yep, that's not gonna help.
Dave
59:24
Well, first of all, I think we should start saying
Sarah
59:24
Hint.
Dave
59:26
Barbera. That's fun. Uh
Sarah
59:27
Mm-hmm.
Dave
59:28
One Day at a Time is the show.
Sarah
59:30
Oh, Valerie Bertinelli?
Dave
59:31
Yes, one point pickup.
Sarah
59:32
Hmm, what do you know?
Dave
59:34
Tara, The
Tara
59:34
Yeah
Dave
59:35
Masked Singer, one hundred sixty-nine episodes It's somebody that's involved in the show at a high level, basically.
Tara
59:42
Okay, so it could be a panelist.
Dave
59:43
Hosts. Could be panelists, yeah.
Tara
59:45
I'm just gonna give it a shot and say Ken John.
Dave
59:50
Correct.
Tara
59:50
Woo
Guest
59:52
Good work, Tara.
Dave
59:53
Margaret.
Guest
59:53
I knew Nick Cannon, but I couldn't have gone deeper.
Dave
59:56
Your show is The Talk, in which a television actor hosted 1,554 episodes of Who is that actor that many episodes under the belt of the talk?
Guest
01:00:09
And we did we did something akin to the talk, but I guess we didn't do literally the talk.
Dave
01:00:13
So got hints if you need them.
Guest
01:00:14
I I I I will take my first hand, please.
Dave
01:00:17
This actor played a character whose first name is Darlene.
Tara
01:00:21
That's a good hit.
Guest
01:00:23
That is a strong hint, but it is not resolving into
Dave
01:00:28
I can give you the TV show.
Guest
01:00:28
an answer in my mind. Yes, please do.
Dave
01:00:31
Darlene was on a character on Roseanne.
Guest
01:00:36
Oh, okay. People on the T V show Roseanne. I mean, obviously Not Roseanne. Uh I'm really doing great here. Um you know what? Is it Christina Applegate? No, that's married with children.
Dave
01:00:53
Man, wrong
Guest
01:00:54
Damn it, I should have guessed Lori
Dave
01:00:54
show.
Guest
01:00:55
Metcalf
Dave
01:00:56
Also, I believe SAGsAG president at some point, right? Wasn't she?
Sarah
01:01:00
No, that was Melissa.
Tara
01:01:01
Her sister was, yeah.
Dave
01:01:01
Oh, that was Melissa Gilbert. Right. All right. Uh Sarah Gilbert is your answer here
Guest
01:01:05
Oh great. I would never have come up with that. I feel okay.
Dave
01:01:08
Great. All right. Sara Dunding, this will take us into our scorebreak. You have Ugliest House in America. They hosted 48 episodes recently discussed on this very show.
Sarah
01:01:18
Yeah, and it has not it's not remained in my brain, so if you could please give me a hint
Dave
01:01:24
They played a character named Donna.
Sarah
01:01:28
Definitely not Joel McHale. Ugliest house in America.
Tara
01:01:32
You don't know
Sarah
01:01:33
Yeah, true. I mean I I kind of know. Can I have the last hint, please? I'm blanking.
Dave
01:01:38
Donna on Parks and Wreck.
Guest
01:01:40
Oh, okay, great.
Sarah
01:01:41
Yeah, no, that actually doesn't help more. Who played Donna on Parson Rick? That is the question
Guest
01:01:47
She's Manon
Sarah
01:01:48
before the panel.
Guest
01:01:49
Monominaus
Tara
01:01:50
She is mononymous.
Sarah
01:01:51
And I think it's I don't know, Rashida Jones.
Dave
01:01:57
Incorrect. I think everybody else knows. Margaret
Guest
01:02:00
Retta.
Dave
01:02:00
Retta is correct.
Sarah
01:02:02
Oh, right.
Dave
01:02:02
Yes.
Guest
01:02:03
But I wouldn't have gotten that from Donna alone.
Dave
01:02:05
We are halfway through. Scores, please.
Tara
01:02:08
Okay, we're not doing challenge zones, right?
Dave
01:02:10
No.
Tara
01:02:11
Okay, Sarah has six, Margaret has eleven, I have thirteen. Sarah, do you concur?
Sarah
01:02:16
Thank you
Tara
01:02:16
Thank you.
Dave
01:02:17
Alright, let's get back into it. Back to Tara.
Tara
01:02:19
Yes.
Dave
01:02:19
You've got dinner for five for 49 episodes.
Tara
01:02:23
God
Sarah
01:02:23
Fuck
Tara
01:02:23
damn it, Pinky.
Sarah
01:02:23
you, Picky.
Tara
01:02:25
That's John Favreau
Dave
01:02:26
Tom Favreau is correct. This is question seventeen
Sarah
01:02:28
Did you know he was in a Rocky Marciano picture?
Dave
01:02:33
Thank you. It is for Margaret. Your show is Press Your Luck. 66 episodes by this television actor. Press your luck.
Guest
01:02:43
I'm going to need a hint? Probably both, but we'll start with one.
Dave
01:02:47
They played a character whose first name is Avery. Avery.
Guest
01:02:52
Certainly going to need the second.
Dave
01:02:54
They played Avery on 30 Rock.
Guest
01:02:57
Avery on thirty rock.
Dave
01:02:59
Yeah.
Guest
01:02:59
Okay, uh Elizabeth Banks
Dave
01:03:00
Yes, correct. One point
Guest
01:03:02
All
Sarah
01:03:02
Wow, nice.
Dave
01:03:02
pickup.
Guest
01:03:02
right.
Sarah
01:03:03
Nice pull.
Dave
01:03:04
You ready, sir?
